Chapter 1316:

Jett’s POV:

The study door slammed shut behind us as Lucian spun around, his eyes blazing with barely suppressed rage. Lightning flashed outside the window, briefly illuminating the jagged scar etched across his brow.

“Are you really determined to keep her here?” Lucian growled, each word ground through clenched teeth.

Ignoring his glare, I strode to the liquor cabinet and poured myself a generous glass of strong spirits. “Yes.”

Lucian surged forward, gripping my wrist with such force that the glass crashed against the table. “Do you even realize how dangerous things have gotten? The three princes of the werewolf clan are already investigating along our borders!”

His grip tightened painfully. “Colt could report you to your father at any moment for harboring someone from an enemy clan…”

“Let him report me, then!” I snarled, violently wrenching my wrist from his grasp. “No one will take Makenna from me!”

Lucian let out a bitter, incredulous laugh. “Makenna is the Saint of the White Wolf Clan—the Wizard Clan’s sworn enemy! Keeping her here is practically handing Colt the knife to slit your throat!”

“I said she stays!” I slammed my palm against the table. Lucian’s face drained of color instantly. He stepped back slightly, his voice softening, tinged with anxiety. “What about your father?”

His words were nearly drowned out by the rolling thunder outside. “If he finds out…”

“Then I’ll leave.” My tone was as cold as ice. “If the Wizard Clan can’t accept her, I’ll take her somewhere far away.”

Lucian stared at me as though lightning had struck him where he stood. His lips trembled before he collapsed into the nearest armchair, shoulders slumped in defeat. “You’ve completely lost your mind…”

The rain outside gradually subsided, leaving only the harsh rhythm of Lucian’s strained breathing filling the quiet study.

After a tense pause, I broke the silence. “Enough of this. What was it you wanted to tell me?”

Lucian inhaled deeply, regaining his composure. He reached into his coat, pulling out a small velvet pouch and emptied its contents onto the table. Several dark-red pills scattered across the surface.

Lowering his voice, he explained carefully, “These are your father’s medications. I had them analyzed thoroughly—there’s no trace of poison.”

I took one pill between my fingers, crushing it slowly. A fine red powder spilled across the tabletop. My father’s illness had dragged on suspiciously, and I had long harbored doubts that someone was secretly tampering with his medicines.

“I’ve checked every dish served to him; no poison there either,” Lucian continued with frustration. “Even the coffee and pastries have come back clean.”

Staring at the crushed remnants of the pill, I frowned deeply. Impossible! My father’s illness was far too sudden, far too suspicious. Colt would never overlook such an opportunity. Unless… he had employed a method we had not yet considered.

“Your Highness.”

A gentle knock interrupted my thoughts. A servant entered quietly, ushering the physician into the study before discreetly retreating.
