Chapter 1317
Chapter 1317:
“Your Highness, the antidote you requested is ready,” the physician said respectfully, bowing deeply as he presented a small ornate box.
Lucian’s eyes flicked sharply between the physician and me, confusion evident. “Antidote? What antidote?”
I opened the box, revealing two emerald-green pills nestled carefully on velvet. Without hesitation, I picked one up and placed it into my mouth, the bitter taste flooding my senses instantly.
“Long ago, Antoni poisoned Makenna and me,” I admitted hoarsely. “Whenever our skin makes contact, the aphrodisiac immediately takes effect.”
Lucian’s face darkened dangerously, fists clenching until his knuckles turned white. “This must be Colt’s doing, with Antoni acting as his pawn!”
Ignoring Lucian’s rage, I took the remaining antidote, preparing to leave the room immediately. Makenna needed this urgently.
“Wait!” Lucian suddenly blocked my path, uncertainty flickering briefly across his face. “Your Highness, even if you disregard your own safety, think about Makenna. You must send her away from the Wizard Clan!”
My hand froze mid-air, inches from the door handle.
Outside, a nightingale’s mournful song pierced the silence, sharp and haunting.
Makenna’s POV:
I stood barefoot outside the study door, the chill of the floor creeping into my feet, making them numb and uncomfortable.
“You must send her away from the Wizard Clan!”
Just as my fingers brushed the doorknob, Lucian’s voice, low but laced with simmering anger, thundered from inside.
My heart dropped like a stone, and my fingertips instinctively dug into my palm. Jett’s voice followed, quieter and heavier than usual. “I’ll look after her.”
Suddenly, I heard the faint creak of hinges as the door swung open from the inside.
Startled, I stumbled forward and collided with Jett’s chest, the silver buttons of his shirt pressing sharply against my forehead.
When I lifted my eyes, I found his face inches from mine, surprise etched in every line.
“I—I wasn’t eavesdropping…” I blurted, stumbling back until my spine met the cold wall. “I just… had a nightmare. I came looking for you.”
Through the doorway, I could see Lucian by the window, his posture stormy, and the physician clutching a medical kit, both men’s stares pinning me in place.
“It’s all right,” Jett murmured, gathering me into his arms. One hand cradled my head while he spoke to the others. “You two can go.”
As Lucian brushed past, his sidelong glance dripped with disdain and warning, and I shivered.
The doctor hurried out afterward, head bowed, releasing a soft sigh as he passed me.
Jett guided me down the dim corridor, his fingers entwined with mine. Back in the bedroom, he paused at the foot of the bed. “Your hands are freezing,” he said, his thumb gently tracing the bones of my wrist.
I realized then that I’d been trembling.
