Chapter 1315
Chapter 1315:
Back in the living room, I yanked my wrist free.
Five angry welts burned where his grip had branded my skin, each one throbbing sharply.
I opened my mouth to demand answers, but Jett’s expression silenced me.
“Your Highness,” a maid ventured timidly, pushing the door open. “Mr. Lucian Ortiz is here. He says he has urgent matters to discuss with you.”
Jett’s eyes fluttered shut for a moment. When they opened again, some of the strain had eased, though not completely.
He reached toward my face but stopped short, his hand hovering in hesitation. His voice softened, carrying a weight of uncertainty. “Makenna, get some rest. Don’t dwell on this. Just… trust me.”
I searched his eyes for answers, but all I found was a deep, impenetrable void.
Turning to the maid, he ordered, “Bring Makenna some refreshments.”
The door suddenly swung wider, and a man strode in. His silver-gray hair was swept back, revealing a rugged face scarred by a striking mark above his left eyebrow.
“Mr. Ortiz…” The servants bowed hastily.
I rose to my feet, my fingers twisting nervously in my dress. “Good morning…”
Lucian’s piercing gaze cut through me, his pupils narrowing the instant they met mine. His stare, brimming with unreadable emotions, made my skin prickle. Instinctively, I stepped back.
“Upstairs,” Jett said sharply, positioning himself between us and blocking Lucian’s view. With a curt nod toward the staircase, he moved forward.
The two men climbed the steps in silence. At the landing, Lucian glanced back at me, his lips parting as if to speak, but no words came.
I nibbled mechanically on the pastries the maid had brought, their sweetness dissolving tastelessly on my tongue.

Thunder rumbled outside, rain hammering against the windows in sync with my racing pulse.
In the dim afternoon light of the bedroom, the storm’s cadence was strangely soothing, lulling me into sleep.
Curled on the bed, I slipped into a foggy dream.
Three towering figures emerged from the mist.
The one in front reached for my face, his voice raw and broken. “Makenna… how could you forget us?”
“Who are you guys?” I squinted, straining to see their faces, but they remained blurred.
Their expressions twisted with pain at my question.
The man in the middle lunged forward, grabbing my wrist. “We are your—”
“Ah!”
A lightning flash tore through the sky, and I jolted awake, screaming.
Cold sweat drenched my nightgown, thunder still echoing in my ears.
Without thinking, I bolted barefoot from the room, racing toward the study at the end of the second-floor hallway, where a faint light glowed.
