Chapter 1312:

The physician hurried in, medical kit in tow.

Kaya’s wary gaze lingered on Jett until I squeezed her hand reassuringly. “It’s alright, Kaya. They mean no harm.”

Jett stepped forward, bowing with deep respect. “My gratitude for saving Makenna,” he said earnestly, his arm slipping protectively around my shoulders. “Makenna is my mate. We were separated some time ago.”

Kaya’s eyes flicked between us, a dawning realization softening her weathered features.

“So that is the truth…” She patted my hand, her smile warm and knowing.

“Blessings on your reunion, dear.”

“Yet…” I bowed my head, a pang of sorrow in my voice. “My memories remain lost to me.”

“Fret not,” Kaya soothed, though a cough interrupted her words. “With your heart’s match by your side, those memories will surely return.”

As the doctor tended to Kaya, I watched fretfully, blurting, “Kaya, come with us! If Brice returns to torment you…”

“This cottage has been my haven all my days,” Kaya replied, shaking her head with a serene smile. “I’ll not leave it now.”

Jett stepped forward at just the right moment and gently set a small, embroidered pouch on the pillow beside Kaya. “A token of our deepest gratitude,” he said softly. “Please accept this, in thanks for saving Makenna.” Then, in a hushed tone, he added, “Should anyone inquire after Makenna…”

Kaya nodded sagely. “Rest easy. My lips are sealed.”

On the journey back to the Wizard Clan’s palace, I gazed out the window, the village’s charm fading into the horizon. Curiosity stirred, and I turned to Jett.

“Why ask Kaya to keep silent about me?” I asked quietly.

Jett’s expression grew somber. Instead of answering, he drew me close, enveloping me in his embrace. Through the fabric of his clothes, I felt the steady cadence of his heartbeat, a quiet promise of safety.

“It was all to keep you out of harm’s way,” he murmured, his chin resting gently atop my head. “The world beyond the palace is still full of dangers. I can’t let you take any risks again.”

Nestled against him, a profound sense of solace washed over me. Trusting his words, I simply whispered, “Very well.”

Back at the palace, I recuperated in Jett’s splendid villa, where days unfolded in tranquil luxury. Jett visited me every day, sometimes with freshly picked roses in hand, other times with delicate, hand-crafted pastries that looked almost too beautiful to eat.

Under the doctor’s diligent care, my strength returned, the troubling coughs and traces of blood fading into memory.

One radiant morning, with the sun casting a golden glow, Jett had departed at dawn for pressing matters and had yet to return.

“What a splendid day,” I mused softly after breakfast, a sudden longing stirring within me to bask in the fresh air.

“Ready some attire for an outing,” I directed the servants nearby.
