Chapter 1277:

We hurriedly gathered our things, ready to make a move.

The main trail down the mountain was already sealed off by Leonardo’s troops, their flags whipping sharply in the breeze.

We decided to take a secret path, pushing through thick bushes until I suddenly stopped.

“It’s way too quiet here…” I whispered, scanning the area with a nervous eye. The woods were completely silent—not even a bug dared to buzz—making the stillness feel eerie.

Dominic squeezed my hand tightly, wordlessly trying to calm me down. As we moved through a tight ravine, the grinding of metal gears echoed from the rocky walls around us.

“Watch out!” Dominic yelled, lunging over me to shield me with his body. Before long, a barrage of arrows coated in deadly poison flew out from cracks in the rocks, zipping past and grazing our heads.

An arrow struck the tree right next to me, sinking in deep. Its tip glowed with an eerie blue light, a clear sign it was coated in venom.

“Be careful!” Dominic yanked my wrist and spun me behind him, using his body as a shield.

Almost at the same time, another arrow skimmed through his hair, thudding sharply into the tree behind us. Bryan didn’t waste a second. He swung his sword with skill, knocking away several arrows aimed our way.

But the soldiers covering our backs weren’t so lucky.

Cries of pain echoed as one by one, they were struck by the poisonous arrows. Their wounds turned a sickly mix of blue and purple in no time.

“Pull back!” Dominic shoved me behind a massive rock, his eyes blazing with fierce anger.

Before we had a moment to breathe, soldiers swarmed in from every side, their numbers forming an unbreakable barrier around us.

The sun caught the tips of their spears, and the iron-scaled badges on their armor gleamed with a threatening shine.

The crowd split open, and Leonardo stepped forward, dressed in black and gold armor.

His sharp, hawk-like eyes swept over us, and then a cold grin spread across his face. “Give up. There’s nowhere left to hide.”

I clenched the scepter tighter, feeling its gentle warmth pulse under my skin. “Don’t get cocky. We’d rather die than give in!”

My voice rang out loud and clear through the narrow gorge. “Besides, no one’s sure how this fight will end!”

Leonardo chuckled, his laughter thick with scorn.

He shifted his gaze to Dominic and Bryan, suddenly adopting a fake, fatherly tone. “You two thankless boys. Surrender now, help me capture this girl, and I might just forgive your treason.”

Bryan stepped forward, his eyes cold and steady as they met Leonardo’s. He spoke calmly but with firm resolve. “Father, quit it. Stop turning Makenna into your enemy.”

“The Lycan throne was never truly ours to claim.” Those words set Leonardo off like a powder keg.
