Chapter 1276:

Then, a miracle unfolded. Dominic’s wounds began to mend, the gashes sealing before our eyes. Color slowly returned to his ashen face.

“It is working…” I breathed, a faint smile breaking through my fear. But then, a wave of dizziness crashed over me.

The world tilted, and Bryan’s desperate shouts grew faint as darkness swallowed me.

I didn’t know how long I was out, but as my senses stirred, the first thing I felt was the soothing warmth of a fire crackling within the tent.

My eyes fluttered open, and I was met with two anxious faces—Dominic and Bryan, hovering on either side of me.

“You’re awake?” Dominic leaned closer, his eyes shimmering with a storm of unspoken emotions.

His slender fingers grazed my cheek with a tender touch, but his face quickly tightened with resolve. “Do you have any idea how much you scared me?” His throat bobbed as he swallowed hard, grappling with his words. “Makenna, you must never take such a reckless chance again! I’d sooner face my own end than watch you suffer.”

I offered a faint smile, my hand weakly clutching his sleeve. “If I had to relive that moment… I would choose the same path without hesitation.”

“You!” Dominic’s jaw clenched in exasperation, though he couldn’t muster the heart to reprimand me further. Instead, a heavy sigh escaped him.

“Ahem!” Bryan’s deliberate cough sliced through the tender moment between us.

I turned to him, catching the playful smirk dancing on his lips. “Makenna, how are you holding up? Ready to hit the road?”

I eased myself upright, still a touch woozy but far stronger than before. “I’m alright now. Let’s make haste for Marehelm.”

A sudden jolt of realization hit me, and I scanned the tent with a surge of panic.

“Wait—where is the sacred artifact?”

Makenna’s POV:

Bryan snatched the sacred artifact from beside him and stretched it toward me without hesitation.

As soon as his hand made contact with the scepter, the crystal orb at its top, which had been softly glowing blue, suddenly lost its light.

“What’s going on?” Bryan shouted, yanking his arm away, clearly startled. I rushed to take the scepter from him. The second it touched my skin, the glow returned, soft and warm, as if it had just come alive again.

The odd reaction had the three of us exchanging confused glances, completely thrown off.

Dominic narrowed his eyes and slowly reached out, his finger inching toward the glowing artifact. Right before his finger touched it, the light flickered and went dim, like it was afraid of something.

“It’s pushing me away…” Dominic pulled back his hand, speaking in a quiet, serious tone. “It kept shining while you were out cold, and then went dark once your heartbeat evened out.”

As we spoke, Bryan suddenly stiffened, eyes wide with alertness. “Something’s not right!”

He yanked back the tent flap, revealing an eerie stillness outside. Not a single bird chirped to break the heavy quiet.
