Chapter 1271:

“Perfect,” Antoni’s venomous voice cut in, dripping with cruel delight. “Today, you two can perish as star-crossed lovers!”

I let out a sharp, defiant laugh. “Not on your life.”

Raising the scepter, I aimed it at Antoni. But just as I summoned its power, the blue crystal orb at its tip flickered and faded, lifeless. No matter how fiercely I willed it, it remained as inert as a common stick.

“Why?” I stared at the sacred artifact, stunned. It was now nothing more than a hollow staff, stripped of its divine spark.

Antoni’s laughter grated like nails on stone. “Looks like fate has turned its back on you!”

He raised his right hand, and the wizard soldiers resumed their relentless advance.

Boom!

A deafening explosion roared from the depths of the cemetery, the ground quaking beneath us.

Debris cascaded from above, kicking up swirling clouds of dust as it crashed to the earth.

“This is bad!” Dominic’s face tightened, a rare flicker of dread in his eyes. “The Iron Scale Guards must be triggering the cemetery’s self-destruct unit!”

Antoni’s composure shattered, panic twisting his features. He spun toward the blast’s source, eyes wide with terror. “Fall back! Retreat now!”

He shouted the command, leading the wizard soldiers in a frenzied scramble for the exit.

No time to hesitate. I steadied Dominic, helping him rise. “We’ve got to move!”

Dominic leaned heavily against me, his skin burning like a fevered flame. His wounds were likely festering.

“Makenna, leave me…” He tried to push me away, his voice faint but firm. “Save yourself!”

“Don’t you dare say that…” I gripped his arm tighter, tears stinging my eyes. Yet I forced a playful smile. “We swore an oath to the Moon Goddess to be mates for life. If you die, I’m not staying behind!”

With every ounce of strength, we staggered to the exit, only to find a colossal stone barring our path.

“Curse Antoni!” I spat, my fury boiling over. “That snake has sealed us in to meet our doom!”

In that desperate moment, the pendant at my neck flared with sudden heat, and the scepter in my grasp began to pulse with a gentle, ivory glow.

As if answering our plight, the two artifacts hummed with life. Their radiance swelled, weaving together into a blinding beam that lanced toward the immovable stone door.

Boom!

A thunderous roar shook the air as the massive slab exploded into a shower of fragments, debris scattering like leaves in a storm.

My eyes widened, locked on the shattered remnants of the stone door, disbelief coursing through me. But there was no moment to linger. Propping up Dominic’s faltering frame, I guided him swiftly through the swirling, dust-choked passage.
