Chapter 1252:

Alice picked up a bright rattle and shook it gently in front of Winfred.

The moment he saw it, his eyes lit up. He reached out, cooing happily, his tiny legs kicking in excitement.

“Look how happy he is,” I said, laughing as I poked his soft, chubby cheek with my finger.

At that moment, Winfred grabbed my finger tightly. His big eyes locked onto mine, and his little mouth softly whispered, “Mom… Mom…”

Makenna’s POV:

Alice and I froze at the same time, our eyes meeting. We both shared a look of astonishment and happiness.

I bent over the cradle, my finger lightly brushing Winfred’s smooth, pink cheek. “Winfred, could you call me Mom again?” I asked.

The child just blinked at me with his wide, bright eyes. Then, his little mouth spread into a grin. His small hands tugged at my blouse, but no matter how hard I tried, he wouldn’t say a word.

I felt a bit disappointed, but I wasn’t ready to throw in the towel. I gave it another shot, coaxing him softly, “Mom… Mom…”

Alice couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing. She reached over to mess with my hair. “Come on, Makenna, give him a break. He’s still so tiny. That he said it once is already incredible.”

Her eyes shone with affection. “You’re such an excited mom.”

I bit my lip, feeling a bit embarrassed, but smiled back at her. Gently, I picked Winfred up and rocked him in my arms.

His tiny, warm body snuggled close to me, smelling of milk. His little hands grabbed at my blouse, full of energy and curiosity.

I lost track of time while playing with Winfred. The sunlight outside faded, turning a gentle shade of gold.

Alice stood up and opened the curtains, letting the soft evening light pour into the room.

“Is it really that late?” I said, surprised, looking out the window. I gently placed the now-dozing Winfred back in his cradle and tucked the blanket around him, making sure he was cozy.

He was fast asleep, his cheeks soft and rosy. His long lashes created gentle shadows on his face.

I left Winfred’s room and rushed to the kitchen to prepare a healthy meal. I packed it carefully into a container before heading to the hospital.

When I opened the door to Alden’s hospital room, he was propped up against the headboard, dozing lightly.

At the sound of the door opening, his eyes shot open. As soon as he saw me, his face lit up with a big smile.

“Why did it take you so long to come see me, Makenna?” he teased, his voice playfully accusing.

I couldn’t hold back a laugh as I walked over to his bed, messing with his soft hair. “I’m here now, aren’t I? And I brought you some food.”

I started unpacking the container, setting each dish carefully on the bedside table.
