Chapter 1204:

I sat tall and grim at the conference hall’s long table, clutching a bundle of damning documents. My eyes locked on Manley, who was crouched low before us, trembling.

His complexion had turned ashen, and fear was written all over his face.

“Manley, everything we need to convict you is right here. What more do you think you can say to deny it?” I asked, my voice sharp as ice.

“Miss Dunn, you’re wrong—I swear it. I’ve always stood by you! I’d never betray you like that,” he insisted, still clinging to his lies.

“Oh, is that what you think? Did you really believe we were completely in the dark?” I shot back, my tone cutting. “We’ve had our eyes on you for a while. We just didn’t have the proof. So, we set a trap—fed you fake intel—to see if you’d bite. And you did. Hook, line, and sinker.”

My voice dripped with disdain, and the fury behind my words was plain to see.

At that, Manley’s face drained of color before turning red with alarm. He stammered, raising his voice, “You… you’ve got it all wrong! I’d never—how could I…”

“Save it!” I snapped, slicing through his denial. “The night you tried to slip out of the city unnoticed, Alice and I caught you red-handed. We let it slide back then. Do you really want to keep up this charade?” My voice was cold as steel.

Alice, standing quietly at my side, gave a firm nod and said in a grave tone, “We saw everything for ourselves.”

At her words, Manley’s shoulders sagged. His eyes dropped to the floor.

“I didn’t have a choice… Leonardo backed me into a corner. He forced my hand.”

I sat still as a statue, my expression unchanging.

It was because of Manley’s treachery that Paula had lost her life. No matter how much he wept or pleaded for mercy, I couldn’t bring myself to forgive him.

Once the guards hauled him off, we arranged for a public hearing in Marehelm’s busy main square.

That day, the square teemed with people from every corner of the city. Manley was shoved onto the wooden platform, his wrists shackled with heavy iron chains. His eyes darted wildly, full of terror and hopelessness.

I stood tall on the platform, my gaze icy as it swept across the gathered crowd, before finally landing on him.

“Manley Seymour sold us out, handing crucial information to the enemy. Because of his actions, we faced heavy losses and the death of a dear friend. His crimes are unforgivable.”

I glanced at him with no emotion, took a long breath, and then announced loudly, “For his crimes, I order all of Manley’s property to be seized, and he is sentenced to life in prison, never to leave Marehelm again.”

At the sound of the sentence, Manley’s body went slack, and he collapsed to the ground. He bowed repeatedly, crying out, “Please! Forgive me! I know I’ve made serious mistakes. I’ll do anything to make it right. Please, just give me another chance!”

I didn’t respond. I walked up to him and declared, “Your treachery led to Paula’s death. You’ll never atone for what you’ve done. From now on, you will spend your life paying for your sins in prison.”

Makenna’s POV:

After dealing with Manley, I was completely exhausted, as if someone had cut all my ties, leaving me floating aimlessly.
