Chapter 1174:

Bryan and Dominic entered one after the other.

Bryan was the first to reach me. “Makenna, you’re awake?” he breathed, crouching by my bedside. “Are you hurting anywhere?”

I gave a slight shake of my head. “I’m fine—just tired.”

Dominic lingered by the foot of the bed. His usual coldness was stripped away, leaving behind a shadow of worry—and something close to reprimand—in his eyes. “You’ve been pushing yourself too hard,” he said, his voice low, almost rough. “From now on, let us handle the lesser burdens.”

A weary smile tugged at my lips. “I’m not so fragile,” I whispered. “You don’t have to worry about me.”

Clayton offered a soft, reassuring nod. “I’ve had the staff brew a nutritious soup. Drink it, rest a while—you’ll feel stronger in no time.”

But rest was a luxury we could no longer afford. I drew a breath, deep and bracing, before pushing myself upright.

“Now isn’t the time for rest,” I said firmly. “Leonardo won’t let this pass without retaliation. And Antoni, now allied with the Wizard Clan, watches us like a hawk. He’ll strike when we least expect it. We’re in grave danger.”

A glint of steel flashed in Bryan’s eyes. “Antoni, that treacherous snake, is indeed a thorn we can’t ignore. But we’ve tightened our defenses. For now, he won’t dare make a reckless move.”

Dominic stepped closer, nodding. “Makenna, trust us. We’ll handle them. Your only task is to recover—for now, let us carry the weight.”

I did believe them. Yet I lifted my chin stubbornly and said, “I know you’ll do your part… but I won’t be a burden. Jett is still trapped within the Wizard Clan, and Winfred needs protection. I can’t simply sit back and do nothing. We need a plan—what should we do next?”

My voice cracked slightly, urgency bleeding into every word.

Their expressions hardened as they exchanged a grim look, all three princes turning their full attention to me.

Bryan leaned in, frowning in thought. “Makenna, what are you thinking?”

I raised a trembling hand to my aching temples, trying to gather my scattered thoughts. “Given the situation, we must tread carefully—one step at a time. But without Jett, we’re sorely lacking. We need someone who can craft the potions and remedies vital to our survival.”

A flash of inspiration lit Bryan’s face.

After a thoughtful pause, he said, “Jett trained those children, didn’t he? We could really use the help. Their skills might not match his, but they could help bridge the gap.”

Hope flickered in my chest, and I nodded slowly.

Yet even as that sliver of optimism stirred, the heavy reality of our predicament came crashing back down. The weight and possibilities of it all made me anxious, and I found myself bowing my head, overwhelmed.

Silence fell like a heavy cloak over us. I tightened my grip on the blanket, battling the rising tide of helplessness.

Then, suddenly, Bryan reached out and gently wove a hand through my hair.

“If you’re feeling up to it, would you like to visit Winfred? He’s just next door.”
