Chapter 1175:

The mere mention of Winfred lifted something inside me. My eyes brightened, the gloom clinging to me easing slightly.

Seeing the change, Bryan smiled. “He’s wonderfully sweet—and utterly adorable. I’m sure he’d be overjoyed to see you.”

My heart warmed at the thought, and I nodded without hesitation. “Yes… I’d love to see him.”

Makenna’s POV:

Pushing open the door to the adjacent ward, I found Winfred lying quietly in his cradle, his tiny form curled up like a kitten, carrying the soft scent of baby powder.

His little face, pink and tender, looked impossibly delicate, and his feathery lashes fluttered with each steady, peaceful breath. He was simply adorable—so heartbreakingly perfect.

I stood by his cradle, my gaze melting as it rested on him.

While I had been away, Alice and the others must have poured their hearts into caring for him.

My eyes stung with tears. Reaching out, I brushed the back of my fingers gently against his velvety cheek. “Winfred… my sweet boy…”

As if drawn by the sound, Winfred’s eyes fluttered open. His clear, luminous gaze locked onto mine with startling clarity.

For a moment, it felt as though he recognized me. His tiny hand reached out, wrapping his fingers around mine. Though his grip was barely a whisper, it carried a staggering weight of trust and reliance. And then—he smiled. A pure, innocent smile that curled his little mouth upward and sent a rush of warmth flooding through me.

My heart nearly burst with love. Tenderly, I lifted him from the cradle, cradling him against my chest as I swayed gently. “Winfred, I’m here, darling. I will always be here.”

“Goo… gaa…” he cooed sweetly, as if answering me. His tiny fists waved in the air, his whole being alight with joy.

As I looked down at him, my throat tightened painfully. “I’m so sorry, Winfred… for everything you went through. But I swear, from now on, I’ll protect you. I won’t let anything hurt you again.”

At that moment, Bryan, who had been quietly standing nearby, stepped closer. He slipped an arm around my shoulders, his warmth enveloping me, and said with a proud smile, “He looks just like us. He’s our little one.”

I couldn’t help but chuckle, casting him a teasing glance. “He’s still so tiny. How can you possibly tell who he looks like?”

Bryan threw back his head and laughed, his face brimming with pride. “He’s my son. Who else would he look like if not us? Look at his eyes—exactly like yours! And that little chin, the curve of his cheeks—just like I looked when I was a kid.”

I lowered my gaze to study Winfred’s tiny face carefully. To my surprise, Bryan’s words weren’t just wishful thinking—there was a clear resemblance.

From a little distance away, Dominic snorted derisively and sneered, “What’s there to be so proud of? Makenna and I will have children of our own someday.”

Before Bryan could retort, Clayton sauntered over, his eyes soft as he looked at me. In a gentle voice, he murmured, “When we have a daughter, Makenna, she’ll be as sweet and beautiful as you.”

“Keep dreaming,” Bryan shot back.
