Chapter 1172
Chapter 1172:
At the thought, my fists tightened instinctively.
I knew she must be fraught with worry, perhaps even burdened by guilt, but this time, I could not allow her to endanger herself for my sake again.
“Your Highness, having chosen to return, you would do well to set aside trivial distractions.” Lucian’s voice, sharp and frigid, sliced through the carriage’s stillness, as though he could sense the storm raging within me. “His Majesty awaits.”
“Trivial? How glibly you speak, Lucian,” I retorted, my eyes flashing open. I fixed him with a stare sharp enough to wound. “What does that duplicitous king desire now? Don’t forget—it was he who discarded me! He knew the truth about my mother—”
Before I could finish, Lucian interjected, his expression unyielding, “Your Highness, the past is immutable. His Majesty demands your presence now—that is the priority. I advise you to let go of what cannot be changed. After all, blood ties you to him. Clinging to these futile grievances serves no purpose.”
I let out a bitter laugh, casting Lucian a look of unbridled contempt. “Let go? What would that man’s obedient hound like you understand? What gives you the right to preach to me about letting go?”
A faint twitch crossed Lucian’s brow, a glint of irritation in his eyes, but he held his silence. He spared me one final, wordless glance, his disapproval hanging heavy in the air, before turning away.
The carriage sank back into a profound stillness.
I shifted my gaze, letting it drift once more to the window.
The world beyond the carriage window morphed into unfamiliar terrain—trees denser, their branches entwined, the sky cloaked in a brooding, somber hue.
We neared the borders of the Wizard Clan’s domain, where the air grew taut, laced with an icy edge, as though the very breeze bore whispers of enmity.
My heart grew heavy, a quiet dread settling within me. I knew the road ahead would be fraught with peril.

Colt would not release his grip on me so lightly. He would scheme relentlessly to erase me, a calculated strike to cement his own dominion.
The Wizard Clan’s inner turmoil was a labyrinth of deceit, far more sinister than I had ever fathomed. Every shadow concealed a foe, every noble coveting the throne a potential adversary—I would need to tread carefully through this viper’s nest. Yet, regret never crossed my mind.
I had to forge myself anew, to grow unyielding. For Makenna. For all those I cherished.
“Your Highness, we’re nearly there. Prepare yourself; His Majesty awaits.” Lucian’s voice cut through my thoughts, sharp and unyielding. A wry, bitter smirk curled my lips, but I held my silence, my eyes drifting back to the fleeting landscape.
The Wizard Clan’s castle emerged on the horizon, its towering walls and jagged spires thrusting into the dismal sky, casting an oppressive shadow over the land.
Within those walls, a reckoning loomed—one I could not sidestep. But I stood ready.
Makenna’s POV:
I jolted awake, my eyes tracing the familiar contours of the ceiling above. Golden sunlight slipped through the curtains’ gaps, painting the floor with a delicate dance of dappled shadows.
My body burned as if kissed by a fever’s flame, every inch radiating heat. My throat, dry as a desert wind, scratched with each breath, each one laced with a whisper of pain.
