Chapter 1342
Chapter 1342:
“I’m here.” Dominic kissed my lips. “Makenna, I’ve been here all along. I won’t lose you this time…”
As my consciousness drifted, I heard Dominic’s voice whispering in my ears, over and over.
The next morning, the bright light stung my eyelids.
I slowly opened my eyes, but a sudden shock jolted me. This wasn’t the bedroom Jett had prepared for me!
Even worse, the man who had been beside me last night was gone, replaced by a man with silver hair and golden eyes, sitting by the bedside.
Jett’s pov:
Knock, knock, knock…
At the break of dawn, I found myself standing before Makenna’s door, rapping gently.
“Makenna?” I called out softly. “Rise and shine. I’ve already brewed a cup of coffee and laid out your favorite treats, just the way you like them.”
Yet, silence greeted me from within.
I knocked again, this time with a touch more urgency. “Makenna, are you there?” The quiet stretched on, heavy and unbroken.
A sudden chill gripped my heart, a shadow of dread creeping up my spine.
Without hesitation, I pushed the door open. The room yawned empty before me. Curtains danced lightly in the morning breeze, the bed lay in disarray, but Makenna was nowhere to be seen.
“Makenna?” I burst into the room, my heart pounding as I searched frantically—the bathroom, the wardrobe—every corner, but she had vanished without a trace.
How could she be gone? She was perfectly fine just last night.

“Inside, now!” I barked an order, my voice cutting through the air like a whip.
A maid scurried in, her face as pale as moonlight. “Your Highness, what is wrong?”
“Where is Makenna?” I fixed her with a stare sharp enough to pierce steel, my tone low and dangerous. “Aren’t you tasked with her care? Where has she gone?”
The maid shrank back, trembling like a leaf in a storm. “I don’t know, Your Highness. She hasn’t left her room this morning. I thought she was still sleeping.”
Not left her room? Then how could Makenna have slipped away like a wisp of smoke?
My temples throbbed as dark possibilities swirled in my mind.
Colt had been scheming lately, and though our father lay on his deathbed, he still maintained vigilance against the Saint of the White Wolf clan. Could they have seized the moment of my distraction to spirit Makenna away?
“Your Highness…” the maid began, her voice barely a whisper. “Last night, Mr. Ortiz was chasing an assassin within the palace walls. Could it be connected?”
An assassin?
A wave of foreboding crashed over me, my body tensing like a drawn bowstring. “Raise the alarm!” I whirled around, my voice cold as frost. “Seal every gate of the palace and comb every nook and cranny! Dispatch the elite guards to scour the royal city. Find her—alive, or…” My throat tightened, choking on the final word.
At that moment, Lucian burst in, his face carved with grim resolve. “Your Highness, an assassin breached the palace last night. This morning, the gate sentries reported werewolves prowling the marketplace.”
