Chapter 1336
Chapter 1336:
“Winfred…” My voice cracked as I gently grazed his soft cheek with my thumb.
“I couldn’t keep you or your mother safe. The fault is mine.”
A knot tightened in my throat, and tears welled despite my clenched eyes. Winfred, sensing my distress, patted my face with his tiny hands, cooing softly as if to soothe me.
I drew a shaky breath, pulling him close, my forehead resting against his. “I’ll find your mother and bring her back, I promise.”
Leaving his room, I wandered the corridor, where Makenna’s beloved landscape paintings still hung. Her cherished vase stood by the window, and an unfinished book, with a withered leaf tucked inside, rested on the desk.
Each relic of her presence stabbed at my heart.
Unable to bear the suffocating memories, I turned and strode away.
As I pushed open the door, a chilly night breeze swept over me, offering fleeting relief from the pain.
“Your Highness!” Amon rushed toward me, gripping a letter, his face grim. “This just came from Antoni.”
“Antoni?” My eyes narrowed as I seized the letter, nearly tearing it in my haste. “Why would he contact me now?”
As I opened the note, I found just a handful of stark words: “I know where Makenna is. If you want her alive, deliver the sacred artifact to the forsaken temple in Seda Valley. Come alone.”
Antoni… He knew where Makenna was!
A bitter scoff slipped from my lips as I crumpled the paper in my fist, my gaze flashing with deadly intent.
“Get ready,” I commanded in an icy voice. “I’ll face him myself.”

Makenna’s POV:
In the stillness of the night, I tossed and turned, sleep eluding me like a fleeting dream. At last, I slipped out of the villa and wandered into the garden, where moonlight cascaded like a silken river, draping the rose bushes in a shimmering silver veil.
I settled onto the swing, the cool night breeze teasing my hair with a gentle, fleeting chill.
Since arriving at this unfamiliar palace, each night had felt heavy, as if an unseen burden pressed upon my heart. Fragmented visions haunted my dreams, and a voice, soft yet persistent, whispered my name from the shadows.
Crack!
A rustle of leaves broke the silence, stirring from the nearby bushes.
My head snapped up, catching a fleeting shadow darting through the foliage, leaving a trail of trembling leaves in its wake.
“Who is there?” I called, clutching the swing’s ropes, my fingers cold with apprehension.
Only the soft sigh of the wind through the blossoms answered me.
Perhaps it was just a stray cat?
I exhaled, easing back onto the swing, when suddenly, powerful arms enveloped me from behind!
“Mm!” A gasp escaped me as I struggled, but the stranger’s grip tightened like an unyielding chain. A hand pressed firmly over my mouth, stifling my cry.
