Chapter 1331
Chapter 1331:
I stood frozen, gazing blankly at the endless sea of white fabric, a sudden swell of bittersweet emotion crashing against my ribs.
“Try this one,” Jett suggested, holding up a mermaid gown, eyes bright with anticipation.
I reached out, fingertips brushing the delicate lace, and just then, blurred images flashed across my mind.
Three men encircled me; one held a wedding dress, sizing it against my frame.
“Ah!” I clutched my temples as the visions evaporated as quickly as they had come, leaving behind a sharp, stabbing ache.
“Makenna!” Jett’s hand steadied my wobbling body instantly. “Are you alright?”
I met his gaze, my voice tentative. “Have we… ever been to a bridal shop before?”
Jett stiffened, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he lowered his eyes. His silence stretched, heavier and more unsettling than any answer he could have offered.
“If you’re feeling dizzy, we can come back another day,” he finally said awkwardly.
I closed my eyes tightly. Those glimpses had felt too vivid, too real to be mere figments. They had to be memories.
“I’m fine,” I said, clutching his arm as he turned to leave. “Just a little lightheaded.”
Jett exhaled softly, guiding me gently to a nearby sofa and beginning to massage my temples with tender care.
“Feeling better?” His breath brushed against my ear.
I nodded, though my eyes drifted involuntarily toward the gown he’d set aside. Noticing my lingering gaze, Jett dropped to one knee before me. Taking my right hand in both of his, he asked, “Makenna, do you truly want to marry me?” His eyes glistened with quiet hope, shimmering like a plea made of stardust.
I stayed silent for what felt like an eternity, long enough to hear the wild tempo of my heartbeat.

“I do,” I finally said, my voice low.
Jett’s eyes ignited as if a galaxy had burst into flame within them. He pressed a fervent kiss to the back of my hand, but instead of warmth, an unfamiliar hollowness settled deep in my chest.
This should have been a moment drenched in joy, so why did it feel like something essential was missing?
To hide my unease, I forced a smile and rose from the sofa. “I’ll go try on the dress.”
The fitting room door clicked shut behind me, sealing me inside with my reflection. The gown felt heavy in my grasp, its lace edges trimmed with pearls that pricked uncomfortably against my skin.
I slipped into the dress with mechanical precision, but when I reached to zip it up, the zipper caught halfway. Just as I was about to call for assistance, a sudden wave of dizziness washed over me.
The cramped space, the half-fastened wedding gown, the heat of a man’s breath, a kiss so consuming it stole my breath, and the image of myself entwined with a stranger, trapped in a fitting room… All these memories crashed into me like a tidal wave.
I braced myself against the wall, catching a glimpse of my reflection—pale, haunted, like I’d just seen death walk by.
In those memories, the man beside me wasn’t Jett—not by a long shot.
