Chapter 1307
Chapter 1307:
Pacing restlessly by the bedside, I waited as the minutes dragged on, each one heavier than the last. The cloying scent of night-blooming jasmine wafted in from the garden, grating on my nerves.
“Your Highness,” the doctor finally said, wiping sweat from his brow. “The lady’s external wounds are not fatal, but…”
“But what?” I snapped, my gaze locked on him, dread coiling in my chest.
“There’s poison in her system—bone-eroding poison, crafted by the Wizard Clan’s mystical healers to target the white wolves. Even a trace can be deadly.” He dabbed at his forehead again. “After the Lycan King massacred the white wolf clan, both the poison and its antidote faded from our records…”
“I don’t care about any of that,” I cut in, my voice a low growl. “She’s everything to me. Find a way to save her.”
The doctor nodded hastily. “Rest assured, Your Highness. I’ll head to the hospital’s storage immediately. Perhaps I can find the antidote there…”
I dismissed him with a wave, my mind racing. Why would Makenna have the Wizard Clan’s poison in her veins? Could Colt have orchestrated her disappearance, pulling strings from the shadows?
“Prepare some food,” I ordered the servants lingering at the door, my tone clipped.
They slipped away silently, the soft click of the door echoing in the quiet room. I sank onto the edge of the bed, my eyes fixed on Makenna’s ashen face, unable to look away. Moonlight filtered through the gauzy curtains, painting her features with soft, fleeting shadows.
My hand reached out instinctively, but I stopped short, fingers hovering just above her skin. The last time I had been this close to her was in Marehelm…
“I thought I had lost you forever, but fate has given me another chance…” I murmured softly, my throat tightening.
In my memories, she was vibrant, her eyes sparkling with life and fire. Now, she looked so delicate, as if a single touch might break her, her breaths so shallow they barely stirred the air.

Suddenly, her lashes twitched.
I held my breath as her brows knitted tightly, sweat beading on her forehead. “No… please, don’t…” she mumbled, her voice faint and delirious, her fingers gripping the silk quilt.
“Makenna?” I leaned closer. “I’m here. You’re safe…”
Her eyes snapped open, pupils shrinking in panic. She flinched, clutching the quilt as she shrank into the corner of the bed, her tangled hair spilling over her shoulders.
“Who are you? Stay back!” Her voice was raw, trembling with fear.
My heart sank like a stone. “It’s me…”
I raised my hands slowly, palms open to show I meant no harm. “You’re safe now. I won’t let anyone hurt you again.”
But Makenna’s guarded stare remained, her eyes devoid of recognition, filled only with terror and confusion.
The playful scolding and the warm smiles I knew so well were gone. All that remained was raw fear.
“Makenna, do you… really not remember me?”
