Chapter 1291
Chapter 1291:
“Really?” Colt asked curiously, before I could respond. “What happened to Makenna, Antoni?”
Antoni, ever the sycophant, turned to Colt with an ingratiating smile and spoke loudly. “Your Highness, Makenna did obtain the werewolves’ sacred artifact and defeated Leonardo. However, wielding the sacred artifact repeatedly drained her energy. She was struck by a poisoned arrow and ultimately fell off a cliff.”
Makenna… fell off a cliff…
My hands clenched into fists, nails piercing my palms until blood welled, yet I felt no pain. All I could think of was Makenna. The warmth in her eyes the last time we had been together.
“Jett,” Colt called, a mocking smile curling his lips. “I noticed you and that Makenna woman share quite a bond. Would you like me to send someone to the bottom of the cliff to search for her body?”
Reining in the storm of rage rising within me, I fixed him with an icy stare. “Save your fake sympathy.”
Antoni, eager to curry favor, quickly added, “I’ve already sent people to search the bottom of the cliff.”
Though he appeared to be reporting to Colt, the mocking glint in his eyes told me his words had been meant for me.
Without giving them the satisfaction of a reply, I turned and strode out of the archery range.
As I walked away, my mind churned in turmoil.
“Please be okay, Makenna,” I prayed.
The moment I exited, I saw Lucian leaning against a pillar, clearly waiting for me.
He approached with a grin as soon as he spotted me. “His Majesty has awakened and asks for you,” he said.

Ignoring the summons, I looked directly into his eyes. “I need your help.”
Lucian raised an eyebrow, his lips curving into an amused smile. “You’re His Majesty’s favorite now, Your Highness. What could you possibly need my help with?”
“I have no interest in the Wizard Clan’s throne,” I cut in sharply.
Lucian’s smile froze, and he immediately grew serious. “What do you need me to do?”
“Something happened to Makenna, and I need your help finding her,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
Lucian’s eyes narrowed at the request. He stepped closer and said, “I noticed the last time I brought you back how unusual your relationship with Makenna is.”
He glanced around cautiously, as though checking for eavesdroppers, then continued in a low voice. “No matter how much you care for her, you can’t keep showing your vulnerability to others.”
Vulnerability? Makenna was indeed my greatest weakness.
I lowered my head, unable to respond to his well-meaning rebuke.
Lucian then led me to the carriage that would take us back to the Wizard Clan’s palace.
After a long, stifling silence inside the carriage, Lucian finally spoke. “I’ll send people to search for Makenna. I’ll take care of everything, Your Highness.”
