Chapter 1290
Chapter 1290:
Colt folded his arms, watching with amusement, his eyes glinting with mockery.
“What’s wrong?” he chuckled softly. “You can’t even draw a bow anymore?”
Cold sweat slid down my spine. I clenched my jaw and pulled harder, but the prosthetic’s joints suddenly jammed.
The arrow sputtered forward, tumbling into the grass far short of the target.
“How useless!” Colt sneered, his voice calm but razor-sharp, stinging like a slap.
I bowed my head, the prosthetic’s metallic fingers biting into my palm. Colt had called me here for one purpose: to humiliate me.
But I still needed the Wizard Clan’s backing, so I had to endure.
“My apologies, Your Highness,” I said, forcing a smile. “The prosthetic needs more time to adjust…”
The air grew heavy with tension when footsteps echoed from the range’s entrance.
I turned to see Jett approaching.
Colt’s expression darkened instantly, storm clouds gathering in his eyes. He strode forward to block Jett’s path, his voice dripping with venomous sarcasm. “Well, look who it is—my dear little brother. Father’s planning a hunting trip for us soon…”
He drew out his words deliberately. “After all those years wandering, you haven’t forgotten how to shoot a bow, have you?”
Jett didn’t even glance at him, brushing past as if Colt were nothing more than a shadow.
Being so blatantly ignored made Colt pale with fury, his knuckles whitening as his fists clenched.
Sensing the shift, I stepped forward, feigning concern. “Jett, I heard… something happened to Makenna recently. They say she’s dead.”
The words struck their mark. Jett froze mid-step.

Even from behind, I saw his shoulders tense, his fingers trembling faintly. Just as I had expected.
Slowly, Jett turned. The usual serenity in his eyes was shattered, replaced by a storm of panic I had never witnessed before.
“What did you just say?” His voice was rough, almost unrecognizable.
Even Colt seemed momentarily startled before a cunning smile curved his lips.
A surge of triumph rushed through me. This strike had gone deeper than I imagined. Jett’s attachment to Makenna was far stronger than I had realized.
Jett’s POV:
Makenna… was dead?
My steps came to an abrupt halt, as though a hand had clutched tightly at my heart, intent on squeezing until it burst.
I had been secretly building my own forces these past few days, even while remaining within Wizard Clan territory.
This meant I knew all about Antoni and Colt’s collusion with Leonardo.
I had worried for Makenna, but every time I saw Antoni return bruised and battered, I allowed myself to breathe easier. Besides, she had the three Lycan princes by her side—I thought she was safe. So why was I now being told she was dead?
Was this some cruel joke Antoni was playing?
