Chapter 1266
Chapter 1266:
Then, despite my frightened gaze, he pushed himself to his feet and moved toward the entrance of the passage.
A mocking voice interrupted him. It was the leader of the Iron Scale Guards.
“Prince Dominic,” he sneered, “you’ve crossed into the werewolf mountains. Surrender now and come with me to see His Majesty and confess your crimes.”
Dominic’s voice rang out confidently. “With just you? Catch me if you can,” he challenged, his words echoing down the corridor.
Maybe the wound had become inflamed, and the fever was blurring my vision. I could barely make out a group of Iron Scale Guards running after Dominic as he disappeared from sight.
The poison surged through my veins, and my awareness began to slip away. Darkness slowly took over, and I drifted into unconsciousness.
In that foggy state, I somehow found myself back in the courtyard where I had grown up.
Sunlight streamed through the wisteria trellis, casting dappled shadows. A familiar figure stood there, half in light, half in shadow.
“Mother,” I whispered softly, unable to believe my eyes.
She spun around, looking just as she did in my dreams—silver hair and kind, gentle eyes.
She softly brushed my cheek with her fingertips, which felt warm and soothing against my skin.
“Makenna, my girl…” Her voice flowed smoothly into my heart like a gentle stream. “You need to wake up… The sacred artifact can heal the poison…”
I reached out to grab her hand, but all I caught was empty air. “Mother, don’t leave…”
“Wake up… Wake up, my girl…” Her figure slowly disappeared into the shadows, but her voice became clearer and more urgent.

“Mother! Mother!” I shouted with all my might.
Suddenly, I opened my eyes, struggling to breathe.
I fought to sit up, the cold stone wall pressing hard against my back. I looked around and saw that I was alone in the empty passage of the ceremony—Dominic was nowhere in sight.
My heart squeezed painfully, and memories from before I lost consciousness flooded my mind like a rising tide.
Dominic had gone off by himself, drawing the Iron Scale Guards away to protect me. Now, I wondered what had happened to him.
I shook my head sharply, my nails digging into my palms as I tried to steady myself. I forced myself to stay calm.
There was no room for panic now. I had to get the sacred artifact to save him, to save both of us.
I leaned against the wall, my legs trembling as I tried to stand.
The poison still churned inside me, making every step feel as though I were walking on soft cotton. It was as if my legs had turned to jelly.
The heart of the ceremony was shrouded in darkness and bone-chilling cold. Only the faint shimmer of glowing minerals on the walls provided a ghostly, flickering light. The atmosphere was eerie and unsettling.
Without warning, the stone slab beneath my feet sank slightly, as if it had a mind of its own. It shifted unexpectedly beneath me.
