Chapter 1233
Chapter 1233:
I sat on the edge of the bed and took his hand. The rough bandages dug into my palm. Pain bloomed in my chest like something tearing loose.
“Alden… you have to come back…” I murmured, the words lost in a choked sob.
Then the door behind me opened.
I turned and saw Dominic entering.
The moment he stepped inside, his eyes landed on our interlocked hands. His expression changed instantly—cold and sharp, laced with something darker. “What do you think you’re doing?”
I lifted my head, tears glistening in my eyes, and managed to choke out, “Alden nearly gave his life for us. Is it wrong for me to tend to him here?”
Dominic’s lips curled into a disdainful sneer as he averted his gaze, though the flicker of jealousy and irritation in his eyes betrayed him. With a mocking tone, he retorted, “Tend to him? And who are you to him? In what capacity do you claim this role?”
“You’re my mate, not his—how could you forget that?” Dominic interrupted, his voice sharp and unyielding.
His words struck like a blow, igniting a spark of anger within me. I stared at him, words lodged in my throat, unable to break free.
Sensing my silence, Dominic’s eyes narrowed, Alden’s presence clearly crossing an unspoken boundary.
“I overheard Alden pouring his heart out to you,” he continued, his voice laced with accusation. “Makenna, we’ve already made room for Jett in your heart. Must we now make space for another?”
His piercing gaze bored into me, each word heavy with reproach.
My heart ached as I let go of Alden’s hand and rose abruptly, meeting Dominic’s cold stare with defiance. “What exactly are you implying?”

Dominic’s expression remained icy, his voice cutting like a winter wind. “I believe you know precisely what I mean.”
Exhaling a weary sigh, I tried to reason with him, my voice soft but resolute. “Dominic, Alden is our friend. He has sacrificed so much for us. Is it so wrong to show him care in return?”
No sooner had I spoken than Dominic closed the distance between us, his grip on my wrist firm and almost painful.
I struggled to free myself, but his hold tightened, unyielding.
His eyes burned with barely restrained fury, his voice low and chilling. “Makenna, never forget who you are. You are mine, not his. Your concern for him—have you already given your heart to him?”
His accusation hit me like a thunderbolt, the pain in my wrist sharpening my wince.
“Don’t speak such nonsense!” I snapped, wrenching my arm free with a surge of strength.
Dominic’s eyes widened in surprise, as though stunned by my defiance.
Taking a deep breath, I steadied my trembling voice, firm and unwavering. “I have no strength to quarrel with you now. Alden’s life hangs in the balance, and my only wish is for him to awaken safely. If you can’t understand that, then…”
My words seemed to ignite a fire in Dominic. His face darkened, jealousy and rage swirling in his gaze like a storm.
“Fine,” he growled, his voice dripping with bitterness. “You’ve truly let me down, Makenna.”
