Chapter 1232:

I stayed silent, clutching Alden even tighter.

“Help me,” I begged. “We need to get him to the hospital right away.”

Dominic nodded quickly, his face turning grave. He stepped forward to help me lift Alden. Together, we carefully supported his weight and turned toward the hospital.

Alden had been rushed into the hospital, and the medical team immediately began working on his wounds.

I stood motionless outside the operating room, my fingers clenched so tightly that my nails dug into my skin, yet I didn’t even register the pain. “Makenna, I love you with all my heart…”

His battered body and the frail but determined confession echoed in my mind on a relentless loop.

The memory weighed heavily on my chest, each breath growing more difficult. I shut my eyes in a desperate attempt to calm the storm raging inside me, but his pale face and blood-soaked armor haunted every corner of my mind.

He had risked everything sneaking into the palace for me, enduring the mission for the ancient manuscript despite knowing it could cost him his life. The thought of losing him twisted my insides. If he didn’t make it, I knew I would carry the blame forever.

“Makenna.”

Clayton arrived after hearing the news and walked over to stand beside me in the hallway. Noticing the worry etched on my face, he gently placed his hand on my shoulder and offered quiet reassurance.

“Alden’s tough. He’ll pull through. I believe it.”

I nodded, but my throat tightened. Words seemed impossible.

At that moment, the operating room doors swung open, and the doctor emerged.

I rushed forward and grabbed him by the arm, my voice cracking as I spoke. “Doctor, how is he doing? Is he—will he be okay?”

The doctor let out a long sigh, pulling down his mask. His expression was both worn and grim.

“Mr. Cloud’s injuries are extensive, and the weapon that struck him was coated with poison, resulting in substantial blood loss. We’ve managed to stop the bleeding, but he hasn’t regained consciousness. Whether he pulls through now depends entirely on his will and resilience.”

Poison?

My heart sank instantly. A chill spread through my body as I stood frozen, staring at the operating room doors, completely numb and empty-headed.

No wonder Alden couldn’t recover, despite being a white wolf. Leonardo’s actions were vile. Poisoning the weapons had been a calculated move, clearly intended to kill him.

My fingers slipped from the doctor’s arm. The hallway tilted, and I nearly lost my balance. Clayton stepped in, steadying me. “Makenna, are you okay?”

I stayed silent. Moments later, as soon as Alden was transferred to a ward, I burst into the room.

The instant I entered, my eyes landed on Alden, lying motionless on the bed. His face was pale and delicate, as though the faintest breeze might carry him away. I froze, my legs locked in place. It took everything in me to move again.

As I neared, I saw it—his chest rose and fell in the faintest motion, each breath barely clinging to life.
