Chapter 1223
Chapter 1223:
In the midst of the noise and confusion, my gaze met Leonardo’s. His eyes were like shards of ice, sharp and full of deadly focus. I watched as he calmly raised his bow, the arrow finding its target—me or Bryan, who stood beside me.
A sharp breath caught in my throat, and my whole body froze, tense with fear.
“Watch out!”
Instinct kicked in. I pushed Bryan away with all my strength, trying to get him out of the line of fire. But I had no time to escape. The arrow, swift and silent as death itself, shot through the air, too fast for me to do anything.
Thud!
The force of it slammed into my shoulder.
“Ah!”
A strangled cry tore from my throat as pain shot through me, spreading like wildfire. My legs gave way, and I fought to keep my balance.
Bryan staggered from the force of my push. He spun around, his eyes locking onto the arrow lodged deep in my shoulder.
“Makenna!”
His shout was filled with raw pain as he rushed to me, immediately placing himself between me and the enemy, glaring at Leonardo.
Leonardo’s laugh rang out, wild and full of madness, his voice dripping with cruel triumph.
“Makenna! Did you honestly think your pathetic attempts could stop me? You’re completely deluded!”
I clenched my teeth, meeting his gaze with fury, my eyes burning with hatred. The pain in my shoulder was almost unbearable, but it was nothing compared to the fiery rage that burned inside me, pushing me toward revenge.
“Leonardo Reeves!”

The urge to charge at him, to bring him down with me—even if it meant risking my life—took over. I moved forward, driven by anger. But the smallest motion sent a sharp pain through my shoulder. My strength gave out, my vision blurred, and I almost collapsed.
“Makenna!”
Bryan immediately wrapped his arms around me, steadying me.
“Take it easy! Don’t do anything foolish! We have to fall back for now. Let Dominic and Clayton handle it! Please, you have to hear me out!”
I forced myself to stand, pushing Bryan’s arms off. My eyes blazed with rage. “No… I’m not leaving… I want to take him down myself.”
Dominic and Clayton, engaged in fierce combat with the enemy, spotted us. Their eyes immediately fixed on my bleeding shoulder, and their faces filled with worry and rising anger. Dominic’s usual cold expression turned fierce, full of hatred. He broke free from the fight, rushing toward me, his face torn between rage and deep concern.
“Makenna! You’re hurt! Get out of here, now!”
Clayton followed closely, his face marked with worry. “Makenna, go with Bryan. We’ll handle things here!”
“I’m taking Makenna to safety now. You take care,” Bryan said, his face hard. He lifted me into his arms, holding me carefully.
Dominic and Clayton shouted orders at the soldiers, telling them to hold their ground while making sure Bryan and I were safely escorted off the battlefield.
