Chapter 1191:

“I don’t know, Alice. I just have this gnawing feeling… like something terrible is about to happen. Like a big fight is coming.”

She didn’t respond right away. Her gaze drifted past me, eyes dark with thought, something unreadable flickering across her face.

Then, with a quiet intensity, she turned to me. “Makenna… tell me the truth. Are you planning to organize a wedding for me?”

The question hit like a splash of cold water. I blinked, caught completely off guard.

“What? No! Of course not! Everything’s chaotic right now—I wouldn’t even have the time.”

But Alice wasn’t buying it. Her lips curved into a faint, bittersweet smile as she shook her head. “Some of Amon’s soldiers said they saw you and the three princes entering a bridal shop. And lately, you’ve been… distant. Secretive. I had a feeling.”

I looked away, a bit embarrassed. “It was supposed to be a surprise. But it looks like I wasn’t sneaky enough.”

She didn’t laugh. Instead, her expression shifted, something more serious settling in her eyes. “I’ve been thinking. And I’ve come to a guess. Do you want to hear it?”

My curiosity sparked in spite of myself. “What is it?”

Alice took a deep breath. “I think the enemy already knows about the wedding. And they might be planning to use it… as a trap. A way to gather us all in one place.”

Wait. What? For a moment, all I could hear was the rush of blood in my ears.

“That’s not possible,” I said, though doubt had already started to creep in. “I’ve locked Marehelm down. I control every gate. Who could’ve leaked that information? Unless… Could there be a traitor?”

Alice leveled me with a stern gaze, frowning. “Makenna, I’ve been here in Marehelm long enough to sense it. The people… they’re restless. Many are unhappy with your rule and the presence of the three princes. And let’s not forget—Cody’s forces run…”

Deep. Killing him doesn’t mean you wiped out every root he planted.” Her words gave me chills.

She was right. Cody had cast a wide net, and even though he had fallen, those hidden forces might still be lurking, ready to strike.

It was terrifying!

“You think… his remaining loyalists might have leaked our plans?” I asked.

“We can’t dismiss the possibility,” she replied. “And let’s face it—our enemies have a singular goal. They want Marehelm. They always have.”

As I stood there, overwhelmed, Alice closed her hand over mine, grounding me. “Makenna… I have a plan.”

I looked up, hope flickering through the fog of panic. “What plan?”

She leaned in, her voice dropping to a hush, as if shadows themselves might be listening.

“The wedding—mine and Amon’s—we can use it. As bait. We let them believe it’s a real celebration, draw them in while we prepare a trap. Turn their own expectations against them.”

I gaped at her, my heart lurching.

Alice and Amon’s wedding? As bait?

“Alice… are you serious?” I asked, almost breathless. “This is your wedding. You and Amon deserve a day of joy. Don’t you think it’s unfair for you to use it as part of a plan…”
