Chapter 1190
Chapter 1190:
“Bryan, why do you think you deserve that seat? I should be the one next to Makenna!”
I couldn’t help but smile. Winfred had already claimed the spot on my right, leaving only one seat open.
“Alright, you two, don’t start a war over a chair…” I began, hoping to ease the tension. But before I could say more, Alice swooped in out of nowhere and slid smoothly into the empty seat beside me.
She gave me a quick, mischievous wink, and then put on a mock-stern expression. “To stop these princes from turning dinner into a royal brawl, I’ll take this seat myself.”
I blinked in surprise, then burst into laughter.
With no other option, the three princes shuffled to Winfred’s side of the table, visibly miffed.
Just then, the feast kicked off. The table was overflowing with delicious food, but it was Alden’s fish dishes that truly stole the spotlight. Their mouthwatering aromas filled the evening air.
As the group shared stories and laughter, the mood gradually turned light and carefree.
Their joy was infectious, and before I knew it, the heaviness in my heart had started to lift. Somewhere along the way, I’d had more wine than I intended.
The alcohol began to take effect. A pleasant warmth crept up my cheeks, and the world around me softened in a gentle blur.
I glanced down to find Winfred nestled against me.
His little face was peaceful and cute. His eyes blinked slowly and heavily. He was clearly fighting off sleep.
I gave his back a gentle pat, then lifted him into my arms and passed him to a waiting servant. My voice was low and calm as I said, “He’s sleepy. Please take him to rest.”

The servant gave a respectful nod, collected Winfred carefully, and walked away from the feast.
With Winfred gone, I rose quietly to my feet. While everyone remained engrossed in cheerful conversation, I slipped away from the noise and made my way toward the lake.
The water was calm. It was so still it looked like polished glass, with moonlight spilling across its surface in a gentle, silvery glow. I stood by the lake, letting the cool air wash over me, though the heaviness still remained in my chest.
“I wish this moment of peace could last forever…” I whispered. Everything had been moving so fast lately, giving me no time to catch my breath.
This quiet, gentle night felt like something out of a dream. I wanted to hold it close, even as part of me feared it was on the verge of slipping away.
Then, I felt a soft tap on my shoulder.
I turned quickly, startled, only to see Alice standing behind me. Surprised, I asked, “Alice? What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at the feast?”
Makenna’s POV:
“I saw you heading out alone and got worried, so I decided to follow you,” Alice said softly, her brows drawn with concern. “Makenna, you seem troubled. Is there something weighing on you?”
Her gentle tone cut through my defenses. I paused, torn between keeping it buried and letting it spill. The weight in my chest was too much to carry alone.
