Chapter 1168:

When Colt’s eyes fell upon the man, his countenance shifted dramatically, a storm of shock and disbelief brewing within. “Lucian Ortiz? What brings you to this place?”

In that same moment, Jett’s tension seemed to melt away at the sight of the newcomer.

He leaned toward me, his voice a soft murmur meant to soothe. “Makenna, fear not. All is well now.”

Lucian, catching Colt’s query, bowed in a gesture of deference, his tone serene yet resolute. “Your Highness, His Majesty has been informed of Prince Jett’s presence here. To ensure no misfortune befalls, he has dispatched me to escort him safely back.”

Colt’s visage darkened, his fists tightening as though grappling with an inner tempest.

He whirled to face Jett, his voice laced with wrath. “Jett, did you reach out to our father beforehand? Have you been plotting against me all this time?”

“Jett, what is happening?” I asked, turning to him, my heart a whirlpool of confusion.

Jett did not answer my question immediately. Instead, he fixed Colt with a sharp, scornful retort. “Colt, you flatter yourself too much. I had no desire to return to the Wizard Clan—that place repulses me. But since you’ve hounded me without relent, I refuse to stand idly by.”

As Jett spoke, the icy smirk on his face dissolved, giving way to a smoldering resentment.

He locked eyes with Colt, each word dripping with bitter venom. “Colt, our score remains unsettled. Do you truly believe this day will end so simply?”

At those words, a glint of lethal intent flashed in Colt’s eyes. He glared at Jett, his hand drifting toward the blade at his waist, as if poised to unsheathe it and charge without a second thought.

The air grew taut, crackling with imminent peril, as though the slightest spark might ignite chaos.

My heart constricted, and my fingers instinctively grasped Jett’s sleeve, dreading any rash action.

Just then, Lucian’s voice cut through the tension like a blade. “Your Highness, His Majesty eagerly awaits Prince Jett’s return to the Wizard Clan. Should any harm come to him, His Majesty would be most displeased.”

Colt froze, his hand lingering on his blade, a flicker of doubt and caution crossing his gaze.

After a moment’s pause, his fingers eased, and the weapon slid back into its sheath.

“Mr. Ortiz, you speak wisely. Jett is my beloved brother, and I would never dream of harming him,” Colt said, a hollow smile playing on his lips, though his eyes remained as cold as winter’s frost.

I lingered at Jett’s side, my nerves still on edge, wary of some cunning ploy Colt might yet devise.

Lucian gave a curt nod, his piercing gaze sweeping over Colt before settling on Jett. With a graceful gesture, he beckoned. “Prince Jett, His Majesty awaits. We must depart.”

Yet Jett stood resolute, his eyes boring into Colt. “Colt, surrender the antidote, or I shall not stir from this spot. I would rather face death than leave without it.”
