Chapter 1166
Chapter 1166:
Colt cast a disdainful look at Jett before turning back to me. “I promised Antoni I’d bring you back for his judgment, Makenna. Since Antoni now serves me, don’t you think I ought to reward him for his loyalty?” Antoni had indeed been working with Colt.
Then Colt smiled mischievously and continued, “I think I have a better idea.”
A feeling of dread washed over me at his words.
“I want you to cut off one of your arms, Makenna. That way I’ll have something to appease Antoni with. What do you say?”
Makenna’s POV:
Colt’s words sent a shiver racing down my spine, like a cold wind slicing through a quiet night. Instinctively, I drew Winfred closer, wrapping him tightly in my arms.
Winfred, sensing the tension coiling within me, pressed his small face deeper into my chest.
Jett stepped forward, a steadfast guardian before me, his broad shoulders squared with resolve. His voice, taut with barely restrained fury, cut through the air like a blade. “Colt, if you so much as lay a finger on her, I’ll turn your life into a waking nightmare.”
Colt’s lips curled into a scornful sneer, his eyes glinting with disdain as he tilted his head arrogantly. “You? A disgraced royal rogue? Jett, do you honestly think you’re in any position to challenge me?”
With a casual flick of his hand, Colt signaled the black-clad figures at his back. The men swiftly tightened their circle around us, their movements silent and predatory.
I drew a slow, grounding breath, willing my racing heart to steady. My fingers slipped into my pocket, closing around the small whistle hidden there.
“Colt Bates,” I said, my voice calm but edged with steel, “our men are waiting just beyond these walls. If you break your promise, we’ll have no choice but to carve our way out.”
Colt’s smirk widened, a venomous spark dancing in his gaze as if he relished the challenge.

Shaking his head with infuriating confidence, he taunted, “Did you truly believe I’d come here without proper preparations? My men have already moved to cut off your reinforcements. They won’t reach you in time. Go ahead—blow that whistle. Prove me wrong.”
He flung his arms wide, a theatrical display of indifference, but his eyes gleamed with a cruel, taunting edge. “Go ahead,” he sneered, his voice dripping with provocation. “Blow that whistle. Let’s see if your precious reinforcements are lurking nearby.”
What a vile serpent he was!
The thought sent a surge of disgust coursing through me, hot and bitter. If he dared to speak with such brazen certainty, he must have no doubt of his upper hand.
Our men… could they truly have been stopped?
The realization struck like a thunderbolt, stealing the air from my lungs and sinking my heart into a pit of dread.
NO—I couldn’t surrender to despair. We had to fight, to try every last option.
Summoning my dwindling courage, I lifted the whistle to my lips and blew with all the strength I could muster.
The whistle’s shrill cry tore through the night, a piercing, desperate plea that sliced the air with frantic urgency.
