Chapter 1140
Chapter 1140:
“Makenna!” Jett called out from behind me. Then, I felt a hand tighten around my wrist. “Where are you going? Calm down!”
“Calm down? How am I supposed to calm down? Alice is missing, and so is my child!” I screamed, struggling against his grip.
Jett looked pained, but he still refused to let me go. Trying to reason with me, he said, “Makenna, if you rush out like this in search of them, you’ll only endanger yourself.”
His words, however, meant nothing to me, as my mind was consumed with the thoughts of Winfred and Alice.
“Winfred is still so young. I haven’t even had the chance to hold him after knowing he’s my son. I haven’t heard him call me ‘Mom’ yet. How do you expect me to sit here while he’s out there in danger?” I screamed.
My legs almost gave way, and I burst into tears.
Amon caught up to us then. He seemed to have come to some kind of decision. “Miss Dunn, I promise you I’ll find Alice and Winfred. I’ll make sure nothing happens to them.” He then turned and strode away.
A wave of panic surged within me as I watched him go. I wanted to shout out to him to stop, but it felt like I had lost control of my entire body.
My mind kept coming up with one terrifying scenario after another.
What if Leonardo caught up to Alice before we could? The thought was too horrifying to imagine.
“Amon can’t be allowed to go,” I forced myself to say. “Jett, stop Amon. He might do something rash.”
Jett frowned but didn’t let me go. “Will you be okay on your own, Makenna? I don’t feel comfortable leaving you here like this,” he said.
I nodded and weakly shoved him away. “I’ll be fine. You need to stop Amon. He might do something rash and impulsive and make things worse.”

After a moment of hesitation, Jett nodded and turned to chase after Amon.
Before Jett could take a step, I saw Bryan coming toward us, dragging Amon with him.
Makenna’s POV:
Why was Bryan here? Had he heard about what happened?
I waited as Bryan dragged Amon toward me and then kicked him onto the ground.
“I heard what happened. But taking steps without thinking will only make things worse. You need to stop and think, Amon!”
Amon, lying on the ground, squeezed his hands into fists. His eyes blazed with frustration, but he couldn’t retort.
In that moment, I felt Bryan was the only one who could bring calm to this otherwise chaotic situation.
I reached out to him and wrapped my trembling hands around his shoulders.
“What… what do we do now? Do you think Alice and the others are in danger? And our child… I… I can’t lose them…” Tears cascaded down my cheeks as I spoke.
Bryan wrapped his arms around me and patted me on the back gently. “It’ll be alright, Makenna. I’ve already sent people out to investigate. It’s very likely they are still alive.”
I looked up at him, trying to feel hopeful, but the worry of anything happening to them weighed heavily on me. “How… how can you be so sure?”
