Chapter 1050
"I support Mr. Cadwallader's opinion on the situation," Patrick said. "Trevell Group has a long and storied history and has contributed much to Tarthy City. Should we deny the good that their company has done just because they're under suspicion of being involved in illegal activities?"
He pinned Jack with an icy look and sneered at him.
"We also agree with Mr. Cadwallader's words!"
A foreigner in a crisp suit stepped forward. He was Winston McMahon, the consul general of the Angleria Consulate in Tarthy City.
"We cannot deny Mr. Trevell's contributions and have also witnessed Trevell Group's contributions toward Tarthy City's advancement. Thus, we can proudly say that Mr. Trevell has contributed spectacularly to Tarthy's expansion by providing more than 100,000 job opportunities.
"In comparison, who knows which hole these men crawled out from. They also look quite dangerous, so we're convinced that they must be malicious individuals!"
Winston's expression of his stance raised the atmosphere in the hall to another high. Patrick and his posse were especially thrilled by Winston's declaration. Winston held a unique position in Tarthy's society. For him to step forward to show his support for Patrick was a great boon to them. His impact was second only to Gerard!
Joy washed over Patrick, Peter, Devin, and Jett while Elias and the others' expressions twisted. The scales had once again tipped in Patrick's favor thanks to Winston's unique identity.
"I also agree with Mr. McMahon!"
Just as everyone assumed that Patrick's authority had reached its peak, a woman's voice rang out clearly in the hall.
Wilhelmina, who had been sitting in the front row, rose to her feet. She spoke in a calm but mellifluous voice, "Everyone in Tarthy City knows that Trevell Group has always been a major taxpayer. Other than that, Mr. Trevell has always been kind and generous and has made countless donations.
"Where is the justice if someone like him is forced to endure having his name dragged through the mud?"
Wilhelmina turned to pin her gaze on Jack. Her voice had dropped low when she said, "As for you, you seemed to have timed your appearance deliberately. It's clear that you're hiding some despicable scheme.
"Your accusations of Mr. Trevell being involved in illegal smuggling sounds like a joke more than anything else. With Trevell Group's position and wealth, for what reason would he need to do such a thing?"
Wilhelmina hailed from the top family in Boleria, so her power far surpassed the Carpenter family's. She essentially represented Boleria's support for Patrick.
Two powerful forces had come forward to openly show their support for Patrick. In the blink of an eye, the situation which had originally seemed favorable to Jack and his party had been turned on its head.
The people who acted according to the direction the wind blew began to voice their suspicions about Jack. All the camera lenses were aimed at Jack as well, criticizing him for harboring ulterior motives and malicious intentions. There were even some who accused him of being a liar by nature.
The pressure on Jack's and Elias' shoulders suddenly became a lot heavier.
Seeing that he had once again taken control of the situation, a pleased smile appeared on Patrick's face.
Meanwhile, Elias was wearing an upset expression. He didn't know how to respond to Patrick's authority that continued to grow as the seconds ticked by.
Unconsciously, he cast a glance in Jack's direction.
Jack was the very picture of calm, seemingly unaffected by how they were now at a disadvantage. Behind him Samuel's expression had also remained the sange as if he washt bothered by how they had been cornered.
Caspian was also calm, without a hint of fear on his face. His eyes glinted with murderous intent, looking as if he was just waiting for Jack's order for him to unleash his bloodthirsty self.
Specter was observing everything in their surroundings coldly.
Ignatius' head was lowered. He had stayed mute ever since Gerard made his stance clear. However, his silence did not mean that he had conceded to Gerard's authority In reality, he was the same as Specter and was extremely confident in Jack. He believed that Jack, who could easily order Caspian around, would not be defeated so easily.
