Chapter 1529
"Excuse me, but whose order was this?" Yvette demanded, her voice trembling with indignation. Banking on her uncle's influence, she refused to believe just anyone could demote her out of nowhere.
"It came directly from the top."
"Which top?" she pushed, desperate for a name.
"Miss Wallace, I assume it was Mr. Goodwin's direct order. Please cooperate," the HR rep stated flatly.
Yvette's face instantly burned with humiliation. Had she done something wrong today? Did lan Goodwin personally order her off his floor?
But a man with his level of power probably didn't even know her name. Why would he boot her out so fast?
Panicking, Yvette dialed her aunt, Miranda Wallace. On the other end of the line, Miranda was equally stunned. "What? You're being transferred after just one week?"
"Auntie, please ask Uncle Shaun to call the head of HR! They're close, right? Ask him what's going on! I really want to stay in this position," Yvette begged.
Miranda had orchestrated this entire setup to ensure Yvette married into the Goodwin family, so she wasn't about to give up easily. "Hold on. Let me call your uncle right now and see what he can find out."
Sitting in her cubicle, Yvette felt her nerves completely fraying. She mentally replayed every single second of the boardroom meeting. She hadn't made a single mistake.
Five minutes later, her phone buzzed. It was Miranda.
She snatched it up. "Auntie? What did he say?"
Miranda sighed heavily, sounding utterly exasperated. "Your uncle just got off the phone with HR. It was lan's executive assistant who made the call to transfer you."
"What? But I didn't even do anything! Why would he treat me like this?" Yvette whined, feeling incredibly victimized.
"He isn't targeting you specifically. Apparently, for the past year, lan has refused to employ female assistants. Look around-it's nothing but men on his floor."
Yvette's eyes went wide. She glanced around the executive suite. Her aunt was right. She was literally the only female assistant on the entire floor. Ian despised female assistants?
Why?
"Auntie, what do I do now? Can I still stay here?" Yvette panicked. She had zero interest in being banished to some irrelevant department. If she wasn't on the executive floor, she might go months without ever running into lan.
Miranda was Silent for a few seconds before sighing in defeat. "There's nothing we can do. Your unsfe doesn't have the leverage to override this. Just take the transfer for now. If you hate it, we'll pull you out and find you a spot at another company."
Yvette's heart plummeted. The glamorous, high-society future she had envisioned was being violently ripped away.
On the other end, Miranda scoffed loudly. "What era are we in? Is lan sexist? He's entirely too young to be this old-fashioned."
"It's fine, Auntie. I'll... I'll just do what they tell me," Yvette replied numbly.
Meanwhile, in the CEO's office.
lan was staring intently at a stock market projection on his monitors when Gayin Young walked in. "Mr. Goodwin, I looked into the new Yvette
assistant. Hermansenet
Wallace. She's Shaun Wallace niece. It looks like he pulled strings to get her placed on this floor."
"Get rid of her." Ian didn't even tear his eyes away from the screen. His voice was dangerously calm, laced with absolute zero tolerance.
Gavin nodded immediately. "Understood."
"No one abuses their power in my company," lan added, his eyes flashing with a predatory chill.
As for exactly why Shaun Wallace had planted his beautiful young niece right outside his office-lan didn't even need to say it out loud.
