Chapter 1518
Under the lights, the dark, churning hunger in his eyes was far too obvious. He reached out to touch her, but she swatted his hand away.
"Don't push your luck." With that, she turned back to organizing her things.
The man behind her smiled, his eyes pooling with warm affection as he obediently stood to help her.
"Could you call an electrician to check the wiring?" she asked without looking up.
He nodded. "Yeah, I'll have someone come by tomorrow."
She was exhausted. Seeing that there were still two boxes of books left, she told him, "Head back for now. We can finish this tomorrow."
Though they had both eaten earlier, he extended an invitation. "Let's grab a bite in the city before heading back."
She nodded, not refusing.
The downtown restaurant wasn't busy at this hour, but the vibe was perfect. A smooth blues melody played, instantly relaxing them.
The laid-back atmosphere of the restaurant seemed to make the night itself feel softer.
After dinner, he drove her home. Evelyn was spending another night with the Goodwin family, and they would do the final move tomorrow. Eleanor planned to keep her current place for now rather than selling it.
Early the next morning, Joslyn packed up the last few boxes. Gavin brought a moving crew over to transport everything to the new villa, where Joslyn began unpacking.
By the afternoon, the new house was finally in order. Eleanor took Joslyn to a nearby mall to stock up on essentials and get familiar with the area.
lan's place was fully moved in as well, with Gavin taking care of the organizing.
At five o'clock, just as Eleanor and Joslyn finished putting away the groceries, they heard an engine pull into the garage.
Shortly after, fan walked through the front door. He looked like he had just stepped out of a boardroom, dressed in an impeccably tailored dark grey suit and a deep blue fie. The sharp cut emphasized his handsome features, and the limited-edition watch on his wrist
gave him the cold, unyielding aura of
an elite executive.
He was carrying an elegant paper bag.
"Welcome back, Mr. Goodwin!" Joslyn greeted him warmly. "Ma'am and I just got
back from the store. Take a seat, I'll make you some coffee."
"Thanks, Joslyn," he smiled, turning his attention to Eleanor on the sofa.
"Joslyn, I'd love a cup of coffee, please," he called out. He draped his suit jacket over the back of the sofa, sat next to Eleanor, and handed her the bag passed by your favorite bakery. Here's their new chestnut Mont Blanc. Try it."
She stared at the familiar logo, momentarily stunned. That bakery was nowhere near his route. He hadn't passed by; he had gone out of his way to get it.
"Thanks." She took the bag and opened it, letting the familiar sweet scent waft out.
He smiled. "I'll handle the prep for tomorrow's picnic. Serena will drop Evelyn off here tonight."
"Okay." She nodded. Now that the
house was set up, it was time to bring their daughter over to get used to the new environment before
school started next week.
A moment later, Joslyn brought over a black coffee-just how he liked it—and set a
cup of herbal tea down for Eleanor.
He took a sip of his coffee. "The electrician came by today. We shouldn't have a repeat of last night."
She had bought some flashlights today just in case. They were in a villa area now, not a high-rise, so power outages could be a real hassle.
