Chapter 911:

He slammed his fist on the desk and roared, “I can’t believe this! Cody’s arrogance has gotten to the point where he doesn’t even respect me anymore!”

“What do we do now, Mr. Pierce? You know Edward wouldn’t do anything like that,” I asked, my worry evident in my tone.

Dayton turned to me and said, “Don’t worry. I promise Edward will be fine, and I’ll deal with Cody.”

I knew Dayton was a man of his word. His promise reassured me, and my anxiety eased a little.

“Please save Edward. He is a good person and doesn’t deserve this,” I said, bowing deeply.

Dayton’s expression softened, and he stepped forward, helping me up. “Edward is only in this mess because he helped me. I will do everything within my power to bring him out of it.”

With that, Dayton headed for the door, the work he had been doing before now forgotten.

“Prepare the car and the team. We’re going to the Harrison family residence!” he said.

Alden hurried in at that moment. Seeing that I intended to go with them, he grabbed my arm and said, “I know what’s going on, Ailyn, and I know you want to help, but it’s too dangerous. You should stay home and wait for news. Who knows what traps Cody has set? We can’t let anything happen to you.”

“No,” I said, shaking my head. “I want to bring him back myself.”

Jett’s POV:

In the grand sitting room of the Harrison estate, I was carefully assessing Cody’s health, my focus unwavering.

The atmosphere shifted when the door groaned open, and a servant burst in, visibly anxious.

Cody’s expression hardened in an instant. The warmth in his eyes vanished, replaced by a sharp, unreadable gaze.

Turning to me, he said with measured politeness, “I apologize for the interruption. Please wait a moment. I’ll be right back.”

Without waiting for a response, he stood and left with the servant in tow, his hurried steps echoing through the room.

Left alone, an uneasy feeling settled in my chest.

My eyes lingered on the door, my mind racing.

What could have been so pressing? What had shaken the servant so badly?

Minutes later, Cody returned.

I glanced at him instinctively, but something felt off. Maybe it was my imagination, but his eyes seemed different—colder, almost predatory, as if concealing a lethal intent beneath his composed exterior.

Years of surviving peril had sharpened my instincts, and they screamed at me now—something was terribly wrong. Whatever the servant had whispered to Cody had changed everything. His entire demeanor had shifted, and in his eyes, I was no longer a guest—I was a threat to be eliminated.

I needed to act fast.

Escape was the only option, but Cody’s growing suspicion meant one wrong move could be my downfall.

His voice sliced through my thoughts. “Mr. Burton, let’s continue with the examination.”

I forced myself to remain composed. Any sign of hesitation would only deepen his wariness. Keeping my expression neutral, I conducted a brief check-up.
