Chapter 902:

Alden’s smile widened at my suggestion, and he nodded enthusiastically. “Alright. You’ve been in Marehelm for a while, but I can bet you’ve never been to the beach here before, have you? The scenery is amazing. We’ll start there,” Alden said.

“Alright, the beach it is,” I agreed.

Alden let out a small squeak of excitement at my agreement. Soon, we arrived at the city’s most famous spot, called the Golden Coast.

The view before me was truly breathtaking.

The sun cast a golden glow over the expansive beach, and the sea seemed to shimmer. Waves rolled in one after another, crashing against the shore. A few white clouds drifted lazily in the blue sky. Seagulls soared above the sea, adding to the beauty of the scenery.

Although the cool sea breeze seemed a little too chilly for me, the view before me relaxed me.

“Isn’t it beautiful?” Alden asked, beaming with what could only be identified as pride.

“Yes, it is. Marehelm is truly a beautiful city. Being here puts me at ease,” I answered with a smile.

Alden seemed to glow even more when he heard my words. “I knew you’d love it. I love this place too, and I’ll do whatever it takes to keep it safe.”

I glanced at him.

He stood staring out into the distance, the gentle sea breeze tousling his hair. In that moment, he looked quite handsome. Unable to restrain myself any longer, I asked, “Alden, has the war between the wizards and the werewolves affected this place?”

A Group Of Provocative Thugs

As soon as my question left my lips, Alden’s gaze drifted into the distance, his eyes clouded with the weight of old memories. A shadow of contemplation flickered across his face, as if he were sifting through the ruins of the past.

“This war has been waged for as long as my memory serves me. How could a conflict this savage not leave its scars on the city? The flames of war spread like an unrelenting wildfire, consuming everything in their path. The deeper the chaos grew, the more lives were lost. In the end, it’s always the common folk who bear the heaviest burden.”

His words struck a chord deep within me, wrapping around my heart like an iron chain. I could almost feel the weight of his pain pressing down on my own chest.

Letting out a slow, weary sigh, I shook my head. “But what can we do against such cruel reality? We’re nothing but spectators, forced to watch as history repeats its tragedies over and over.”

Alden’s lips curled into a wry, self-mocking smile. “Yes… we are nothing more than leaves caught in a raging storm, tossed around without a shred of control. Powerless.”

As he spoke, a flicker of realization crossed his face, and his once proud posture wilted, his head bowing under the weight of his thoughts.

“In the past, the werewolves reigned supreme over the Wizard Clan. Back then, the wizards wouldn’t have dared to be so brazen.”

My instincts sharpened, sensing the gravity of his words. A vital clue dangled before me, and I knew I had to tread carefully. Feigning casual curiosity, I tilted my head and asked, “Really? Just how powerful were the werewolves in the past? Were there any legendary figures among them?”

At the question, Alden’s posture straightened slightly, a flicker of pride reigniting in his expression. “Of course!” he declared, his tone brimming with certainty.
