Chapter 1361
Chapter 1361:
Turning, I caught sight of Amon nearby, clothed in the uniform of the Wizard Clan’s guards. I gave him a subtle signal—a flick of my eyes, a tilt of the chin. He caught it and gave a small nod, remaining behind in his disguise without question.
The rest of us trailed after Jett, following him back to his villa. But the silence there was sharp—thick, heavy, hanging over us like a storm cloud.
Then, Clayton broke it. His voice was rough and cracked.
“Why?” he rasped, staring at Jett. “What makes you so damn sure the king won’t hurt her?”
Jett walked toward a window and pushed it open just enough to feel the breeze.
“Because I looked into this a long time ago. Makenna’s mother—Josie—saved the king’s life. Twenty years ago.”
I snapped my head up.
“What?”
“That’s why, even back in court, when everyone accused her of being a werewolf and demanded her death, he turned a blind eye in the end.” Jett let out a hollow laugh and finally turned to face us. “The moment he saw her… he recognized her blood. Makenna is Josie’s daughter. The woman who once saved his life.”
Makenna’s POV:
I drifted in a sea of weightless, ethereal mist.
The fog coiled before my eyes like ghostly silk, veiling the world in a pale shimmer. Within its folds, flickers of memory danced—fractured, fleeting. I remembered raising the sacred artifact… the surge of power… Leonardo’s collapse… and then nothing but the endless drop off a cliff’s edge.
I gasped awake, the world lurching as a stabbing pain seared through the back of my skull. A pained groan escaped me. Why did it feel like my head had been split open?
Above me, a ceiling I didn’t recognize blurred and reformed as my eyes adjusted. A woman with sleek silver-rimmed glasses leaned over me, securing a bandage around my head with brisk but careful touches.

“Don’t move,” she warned, one hand firm on my shoulder. “That gash is deep. Sudden motion could tear it open again.”
I stiffened, my eyes darting across the room. It was lavish—too lavish. Velvet curtains spilled from gold hooks. Beyond the window, the moonlit silhouette of towering spires cut into the night. It had to be the palace. The Wizard Clan’s palace.
Panic coiled in my chest. My fingers clutched the doctor’s wrist.
“Where am I? How did I get here?”
The last thing I remembered was Colt’s dungeon. Bryan. Clayton. Antoni trying to kill us…
A weak cough interrupted the spiral of thoughts.
I turned toward the doorway to see an elderly man standing there, supported by a servant. His frame was frail, his shoulders stooped under the weight of time, but his amber eyes burned with unsettling clarity.
The King of the Wizard Clan!
My entire body went rigid. I instinctively sank back against the pillows, breath shallow.
He stared at me as though peering into a memory.
