Chapter 1354
Chapter 1354:
My heart seized in my chest like a fist closing around precious metal, while an overwhelming tide of relief and love crashed through my ribcage with enough force to steal my breath.
Two endless months of sleepless nights and frantic searching had finally led us to this moment.
“Release them from the cells!” I growled, my voice low and dangerous. The dagger in my hand pressed deeper into Antoni’s side, nearly breaking through his skin. “This instant!”
Makenna’s POV:
The dungeon had no windows at all. I had to guess the time based on how often the guards swapped places.
Lucian must have already informed Jett, right? So why hadn’t Jett shown up yet?
I pulled my knees close, my nails digging into my hands without me realizing it. Out of nowhere, a soft groan came from the cell beside mine.
I snapped my head up and saw Clayton trying hard to sit. His silver hair hung in a tangled mess over half his pale face.
“Clayton, you’re awake?” I whispered, clutching the cold iron bars, my eyes filled with concern. “How are you feeling?”
Clayton lifted his head, his golden eyes still shining faintly in the dimness, though they looked tired. “I’m… fine. Makenna, this is on me. I didn’t protect you like I should have.”
I shook my head, a lump rising in my throat. “It’s all right. Let’s hold on a bit longer. I’m sure Jett will come for us.”
Clayton went quiet at that. After a few seconds, he gave a small, soft laugh. “Makenna, don’t stress. We’ll get out of here.”
His tone was light, but it had a strange, calming effect.
Then, footsteps suddenly rang out down the corridor. We both whipped our heads toward the noise.
Antoni showed up at the dark dungeon’s entrance. His face looked serious, like he’d just fought a tough battle. Behind him stood a stranger I didn’t recognize.
The man was tall, wearing sleek black combat gear. His golden hair shone brightly, almost dazzling in the dim light of the dungeon.
His eyes were a sharp, deep blue. He fixed his gaze on me, filled with an emotion I couldn’t quite read—maybe love… or something else entirely.
My heart skipped a beat. This man… he seemed so familiar.
But no matter how hard I wracked my brain, I couldn’t place where I’d seen him before.
Did we know each other?
“Is that him? What’s he doing here, in the Wizard Clan’s territory?” Clayton’s voice dropped low, full of surprise.
“Who is he?” I whispered.
Clayton tore his eyes away from the man and looked at me, his voice soft as he said, “He’s my older brother. His name’s Bryan.”
“Bryan…” I said the name without thinking. A quick, blurry memory flashed in my head, but it disappeared just as fast, leaving a sharp ache behind.
Clayton gave me a worried look, his face full of mixed feelings. “Makenna, it’s okay if you don’t remember. We’ll get you out of here. No matter what.”
