Chapter 1333:

I pushed through the crowd, dodging strangers, spinning in circles beneath signs and shadows, searching desperately for the face I had just seen.

But he was gone. Just a flicker. A ghost. A memory too real to be fake.

“Makenna, what the hell is going on?”

Jett’s hand clamped down on my shoulder—tight, unforgiving, like he needed to pin me to the earth to stop me.

I turned, breathless. His amber eyes, normally calm and arrogant, swirled with something I’d never seen before—raw panic.

“Who did you see?” His voice was frayed. Unraveling.

“Someone… familiar.” My voice came out like a whisper broken in the middle. I pressed a hand to my chest. “He felt like someone from my memories. Like I’ve known him… before.”

Jett’s pupils shrank, and all the blood seemed to drain from his face.

Then, without warning, he yanked me against him, crushing me into his chest, one hand pressing hard to the back of my head, like he could block the world out if he just held tight enough.

“You’re tired,” he murmured, his voice husky and forced. “You’re seeing things. That’s all.”

But his heart was hammering beneath my cheek, loud and frantic, betraying every word he tried to swallow.

I froze in his arms.

“Let’s go. Now.” He practically dragged me back to the carriage, one hand locked around mine like a tether.

The whole ride back, he didn’t let go. His grip was iron, as if he feared that any loosened finger might let me vanish.

I didn’t look at him. I watched the blur of buildings, the retreating skyline, while inside, the visions kept replaying—flickers of warmth, a smile that felt carved into my bones, a voice my soul still recognized.

By the time we reached Jett’s villa, the tension in the carriage could have cracked glass. He stormed inside first, snapping orders, summoning a doctor before I even stepped over the threshold.

“She’s not right today,” Jett barked when the doctor finally arrived. “Do a full check. I want answers.”

The doctor approached me like I was a porcelain figure teetering on a ledge. “Miss Dunn,” he said gently, “have you been feeling… off lately?”

I hesitated, my eyes flicking to Jett, whose jaw was clenched like a vice. “I keep seeing fragments. Blurry images. Like memories I lost… but now they’re crawling back.”

Pak! The sharp crack of breaking glass sliced through the room. Jett had dropped the crystal tumbler in his hand, and it shattered at his feet. He didn’t move. His face was pale, unreadable—except for the storm in his eyes.

“Your Highness?” the doctor asked cautiously.

Jett blinked, shook himself, and crouched down to gather the pieces. His hand slipped. A shard cut him clean across the finger, but he didn’t flinch. “Keep going.” His voice was gravel. “Do the examination.” He didn’t look at me once.

The doctor, still visibly unsettled, continued with routine questions before scribbling a prescription for sedatives.
