Chapter 1309
Chapter 1309:
“Here, have some soup first. It’ll warm you up,” he coaxed tenderly, his voice almost heartbreakingly soft.
I stared quietly at the spoon held before me and then looked up at him, feeling oddly unsettled by the depth of his gaze and care. Pressing my lips together firmly, I reached out to grasp the bowl.
“I’ll do it myself.”
Jett hesitated briefly, then relented, handing me the bowl with a faint, bittersweet smile. “Alright, if that’s what you prefer.”
As I took the bowl, my fingers brushed against his lightly, sending a faint electric tingle racing through me. I withdrew my hand swiftly, heart inexplicably fluttering.
“I asked them to prepare some of your favorite dishes,” Jett added, gesturing toward the dining table nearby. “Would you prefer to eat over there?”
I cast him a wary glance, deliberately withholding an answer. Instead, I pushed aside the quilt and rose unsteadily from the bed.
The instant my feet touched the floor, dizziness swept over me like a sudden tide. I wobbled, barely managing to regain my balance.
Jett instinctively reached out to steady me, but seeing the guarded expression flash across my face, he quietly withdrew his hand, letting it fall back to his side.
“Be careful,” he murmured gently, his voice tinged with helpless resignation.
Ignoring him, I moved stubbornly toward the dining table and took a seat in silence.
Makenna’s POV:
An array of elaborate dishes sprawled across the dining table, their rich aromas filling the air. Jett claimed these were all my favorite foods, yet not even the faintest whisper of recognition stirred within my fractured memory.
“You can all leave now,” Jett commanded with a casual wave of his hand, and the servants melted away like shadows at dawn.

He settled into the seat beside me, his movements flowing with practiced ease as he placed a tender piece of beef onto my plate. His voice carried an impossibly gentle quality that seemed to wrap around me like silk. “You should eat as much as you can—you’ve grown so thin during your absence.”
I dropped my gaze downward, studying the mountain of food that had appeared on my plate as if it might hold answers to questions I couldn’t yet form. Jett’s tone carried such intimate familiarity, as if we truly were lovers who had shared countless dawns and whispered secrets in the darkness. For reasons that eluded my understanding, the fortress I had constructed around my heart began to crumble.
After draining the final spoonful of soup, I summoned the courage to lift my eyes and meet his gaze. “Thank you… for rescuing me from that forest.”
Jett’s hands suspended themselves in mid-air, and something raw and wounded flickered across his features before his mask of composure slid back into place. “It was the least I could do.”
I wavered for a heartbeat before finally giving voice to the question that had been stalking my thoughts like a persistent shadow. “Is my name… Makenna?”
“Yes, it is.” He nodded, and a smile of such tenderness curved his lips that it seemed to illuminate his entire face. “Makenna Dunn.”
I swept my gaze across the lavish bedroom, absorbing every detail of its opulent beauty. Yet everything about this place felt as foreign as a stranger’s dreams.
“Then… what exactly is our relationship?” I asked, forcing myself to hold his gaze despite the vulnerability that clawed at my chest.
