Chapter 1288
Chapter 1288:
“She just agreed to be with me… how did this happen?”
Suddenly, Alden crumpled to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably. His words struck Clayton and me like a blow, freezing us in place as we exchanged a look filled with shock.
In his devastated eyes, I caught a twisted reflection of myself.
The crisp wind whipped leaves around us, making the air feel even heavier. I clenched my fists until my nails dug deep into my skin.
Clayton drew in a slow breath and placed a steady hand on my shoulder.
We both understood—finding Makenna had to be our top priority now.
Antoni’s POV:
“Mr. Harrison! Bad news!”
I was lying back on the plush couch, eyes shut, trying to unwind when a sharp yell ripped me from my rest.
One of my trusted men, whom I had sent to watch Leonardo, burst in, covered in cuts and bruises, his armor shredded.
“What’s all this fuss about?” I barked, but as I moved, the wound in my right shoulder flared, making me wince.
The man dropped to his knees with a heavy thud, lowering his head in defeat, his voice trembling. “The king… he’s been beaten! The three Lycan princes have taken him!”
“What!” I shot upright so quickly the wound tore open again, blood soaking through the bandages. “Worthless! What on earth have you all been doing?”
“Please, calm down, Mr. Harrison!” The man bowed until his forehead touched the floor. “It’s Makenna… she got her hands on the werewolves’ sacred artifact, and its power is beyond anything we’ve seen!”
“Nonsense!” I drove my boot into his chest, sending him tumbling back. “She’s just a woman. How strong could she really be? Do you think I haven’t laid eyes on that thing before? It’s just a scepter. What kind of power could it hold?”

He coughed up blood, struggling to rise, but a strange grin crept across his face. “But… even though Makenna used the artifact to defeat the king, it pushed back hard on her. She’s badly hurt…”
“Oh? That’s good!” I narrowed my eyes slightly.
The subordinate grinned, his lips smeared with blood. “On top of that, I managed to shoot Makenna with an arrow, and she tumbled off a cliff!”
I burst into loud laughter, ignoring the sharp sting from my wound. “Ha! That’s excellent! Truly excellent!” But mid-laugh, my smile vanished.
“Idiot!” I seized him by the collar, the pain in my shoulder making my voice cold and fierce. “Makenna carries the blood of the White Wolf Clan. Her healing is extraordinary. No simple arrow could finish her.”
His face turned pale under my grip, yet he still forced a crooked grin. “Don’t worry, Mr. Harrison… I… I dipped that arrow in the Wizard Clan’s special bone-eroding poison… Makenna’s probably dead already…”
At those words, I loosened my hold, a grin spreading across my face before I even realized it.
“Bone-eroding poison?” I said. That was the lethal toxin crafted by the Wizard Clan, designed specifically to combat white wolves.
I pictured Makenna writhing in agony as the poison did its work, and a low chuckle escaped me. “Well done.”
