Chapter 1240
Chapter 1240:
For a moment, Maia said nothing. Then, to my surprise, she shook her head and let out a soft, rueful laugh. “Alden’s been mischievous since the day he could walk. That boy has aged me twice over.”
Her eyes grew warmer as she looked at me again. “But for all his recklessness, he’s always had a good heart. And if this is the path you’ve chosen together, then as his sister, I’ll stand by you.”
Makenna’s POV:
I was momentarily taken aback, and then a smile curved my lips. I bowed lightly to Maia. “Thank you for your understanding, Mrs. Pierce,” I said.
She simply nodded, saying nothing more.
Soon, the nutritional meal was ready. I packed it up and made my way to the hospital.
When I pushed open the door to the hospital room, the sight that greeted my eyes was Alden leaning against the headboard, absentmindedly flipping through a book.
He looked up when I opened the door, and his eyes lit up with excitement.
“Makenna!” he called out happily. “What took you so long? I’m starving!”
“Stop being a drama queen. It’s barely been a few hours,” I retorted, rolling my eyes as I placed the food container on the bedside table.
Alden grinned mischievously, leaned in, and then sniffed the air. “Smells delicious,” he said.
“Try not to move around too much,” I said as I gently pushed him back. I then blew on a spoonful of broth before offering it to him. “Here, have a bite.” Alden obediently complied and opened his mouth, his eyes never taking off me. I spent the entire day in the hospital with him, watching him take his medicine and chatting with him. His childish antics amused me to no end.
Soon, night fell, and Alden fell asleep.

I watched the soft heaving of his chest as he slept for a while before I finally tucked him in and left.
The Pierce family estate was shrouded in the darkness of night.
Looking at the windows, I could see that Bryan’s and Clayton’s rooms were dark. Dominic’s window, however, glowed as light shone from within.
The thought of Dominic caused my heart to sink.
He had been avoiding me the past few days.
I stood there, hesitant and unsure of what to do, until finally, I gathered my courage, went upstairs, and knocked on his door.
“It’s me, Dominic.”
There was no response from within the room.
“Can we talk?” I asked as I knocked again.
There was a clicking sound, and the light visible underneath his door went off. My hand immediately fell to my side, and a feeling of helplessness welled up within me.
The shadow around me seemed to grow heavier, pressing upon me like an anvil.
Dominic was truly angry.
When I finally regained my composure, I managed to drag myself back to my room.
As soon as I entered my room, I threw myself onto the bed and stared bleakly at the ceiling.
