Chapter 1217:

“Jett! What are you doing here?” I growled, my voice cracking with pain. He strolled into the room, hands in his pockets, every step exuding arrogance.

“Antoni, don’t forget I’m now the second prince of the Wizard Clan. This hospital belongs to the royal family. It’s no surprise that I’m here, right?”

His gaze deliberately dropped to my missing arm. His smirk widened, poisoned with satisfaction.

“I heard you lost a limb. Thought I’d see it for myself. Now that I have, I must say—this makes my day.”

He laughed. Loud, sharp, and vicious. Then he turned and walked out, his laughter lingering in the air like smoke.

I lay there, hatred boiling within me like a raging wildfire.

“Makenna… Jett… just wait! I’ll make sure you both beg for death long before I’m finished!”

As I returned to Marehelm, a deep sense of emptiness overwhelmed me. Even though we had managed to undo Antoni’s deceitful schemes, Jett’s whereabouts remained a complete mystery. We hardly knew anything about Jett’s condition, and I couldn’t stop asking myself: Was he really suffering under the Wizard Clan’s cruelty, just as Antoni had warned?

I stood by the window, staring out at the distant horizon, lost in my thoughts.

Dominic, always so attuned to me, must have sensed my inner turmoil. He quietly approached and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. “Makenna, don’t carry this burden alone. Jett will be fine. He’s resourceful—he’ll figure something out.”

His unexpected kindness toward Jett caught me off guard. I couldn’t deny that he was right. Jett was more than capable, and all I could do was hope he was safe.

I leaned into Dominic’s reassuring embrace, the warmth of his body and the steady beat of his heart offering me small comfort. The scent of him, familiar and soothing, helped ease some of the fear gnawing at me.

Dominic bent his head, placing a soft kiss on my hair. His voice, gentle and calming, whispered in my ear, “Makenna, I’ll always be by your side. No matter the storm, we’ll face it together. Whatever happens, we’ll get through it.”

I met his eyes, soft and kind, and a rush of warmth filled me. Just then, Bryan rushed in, his face serious, his brow marked with concern.

“Makenna, things are bad!” he said, his voice strained. “The citizens are rioting again!”

My heart sank, and my frown deepened. “How is this possible? Didn’t the people accept the new order already? Why is there an uprising now?”

Before I could process it, Clayton burst in, gripping a document so tightly his knuckles were white. His face was full of concern.

“Makenna, it’s worse than we thought,” he said, his voice quiet but full of barely contained anger. “The latest reports show some people are actively stirring up trouble. Everything’s spiraling out of control.”

I gasped, stepping closer and quickly grabbing the document from his hand.

The pages were thick with text, detailing protests and the dangerous spread of rumors throughout Marehelm. With each line I read, the weight on my chest grew heavier.

Crowds of people had poured into the streets, their signs condemning “White Wolves Are Traitors!” Their chants grew louder, and their march showed no signs of slowing down.

“White wolves are traitors?” I muttered, the words feeling strange in my mouth. “This is crazy! Who would spread such outrageous lies?”
