Chapter 1161
Chapter 1161:
Alice’s and Winfred’s lives hung in the balance, their survival dwindling with every passing moment.
Jett stepped forward, his resolve unshakable as he faced Bryan. “This is the only way. We can’t afford to dawdle—Alice and Winfred’s time is running out. If I don’t go, they’ll perish.”
Bryan’s frown deepened. “There must be another way. We could infiltrate the Wizard Clan’s stronghold and rescue them.”
Jett shook his head. “Time is slipping through our fingers. Colt mentions Alice and Winfred need an antidote every hour. If I’m not handed over within three days, the poison will claim their lives. We can’t afford the luxury of plotting a rescue—there is simply no time, and we would be gambling with their safety if we tried to outwit the Wizard Clan undetected.”
As their heated debate swirled around me, I squeezed my eyes shut, anguish piercing my heart.
Makenna’s POV:
I couldn’t let Jett confront any peril, and my uncertainty held me back from making a choice.
The night was pitch black and still, leaving me restless. I found myself by the lake in the garden, tears silently streaming down my face.
At that moment, a soft hand rested on my shoulder.
I jumped in surprise and snapped back to reality, turning to see Jett standing there.
He stood behind me, the moonlight casting a gentle glow over his tall frame.
His expression was serene, but a hint of warmth flickered in his eyes. His voice, deep and raspy, pierced the stillness as he asked, “Makenna, why aren’t you resting? What are you doing out here?”
I forced a faint smile and replied softly, “I’m okay. I just… needed some time to myself.”

Jett settled down beside me and said, “I was concerned about you, so I came to check on you.”
I managed a sorrowful smile and insisted, “I’m really okay, Jett. You don’t need to fret over me.”
“Makenna, stop being so anxious. Just let me go confront them.” Jett softly took my hand in his.
I shut my eyes, and the tears I had been holding back spilled over again, tracing warm paths down my face.
“Jett, if I chose to sacrifice your safety to save Winfred and Alice, I would carry that guilt for the rest of my life. I can’t do it… I just can’t…” My voice trembled, and it felt like I was on the verge of breaking down.
“Makenna, look at me.”
When he spoke, I lifted my head and gazed into his deep, intricate eyes. My heart ached once more.
Jett remained silent. He reached out and tenderly stroked my hair, as if soothing a child. His voice was gentle, almost reassuring, as he said, “Makenna, I should have returned much earlier. I am the second prince of the Wizard Clan. There are many matters I still have to address. This journey back to the Wizard Clan isn’t solely about saving Alice and Winfred. It’s also about facing my own duties.”
“But…” I tried to interject, but Jett softly cut me off with a “shh.”
