Chapter 1073
Chapter 1073:
Before long, through collective effort, the injured white wolves were transferred to temporary quarters where they could recover.
Paula approached me with conflicted emotions playing across her features. “Makenna,” she whispered, “do you truly trust those bastards? Our clan wouldn’t be in this desperate condition if not for them!”
Her words pierced me like a blade, sending a jolt of pain through my chest.
The devastation suffered by the white wolves weighed heavily on my conscience. I shared in their anguish—a catastrophe that had robbed countless white wolves of their homes and loved ones, leaving only grief in its wake.
Yet, I remained convinced the three princes bore no responsibility for these tragedies. They had labored tirelessly to mend the damage wrought by their father’s actions.
Drawing a deep breath, I lifted my gaze to meet Paula’s. “Paula, these princes are nothing like Leonardo. Their desire to help us is genuine. Consider this—had they not arrived at the prison precisely when needed, our escape would have been impossible, much less rescuing so many of our clan.”
Paula scoffed, her voice laced with contempt. “Who knows if this is merely part of their scheming? Perhaps they harbor greater designs, and this apparent rescue is nothing but elaborate theater.”
I shook my head, anxiety gnawing at me as I searched for words to convince her. “Paula, consider this logically. If the three princes truly intended us harm, why not seize the opportunity when we were vulnerable in prison? What purpose would bringing us to safety serve?”
Though clearly itching to continue her protest, Paula finally surrendered to silence, stubbornly averting her gaze from mine.
Her reaction spoke volumes. The roots of her hatred for the three princes ran deep, an animosity not easily dispelled by reason or circumstance.
With a quiet sigh, I turned toward Maia. “Mrs. Pierce, would you kindly escort Paula somewhere she might rest? She’s exhausted and needs time to recover—both physically and emotionally.”

“Okay.” Maia nodded before addressing Paula with gentle persuasion. “Paula, come with me. You need rest. All these matters can wait until you’ve regained your strength.”
Paula hesitated, conflict evident in her eyes, but ultimately conceded and followed Maia.
Once the white wolves had been tended to, Dayton approached me, his expression brightening. “Miss Dunn, Your Highnesses, the white wolves are stable now. Let’s retire to the main hall to rest and discuss our next course of action.”
I nodded my agreement and walked alongside the three princes and Dayton toward the main hall.
Makenna’s POV:
An oppressive silence hung over the main hall, the atmosphere thick with tension.
The servants glided in with practiced efficiency, setting down trays of steaming coffee before us.
In the heavy quiet, the delicate clink of porcelain against silver echoed unnaturally loud.
Around the table, we gathered like mourners, each face etched with concern and furrowed brows betraying our collective anxiety.
After delivering the refreshments, the staff vanished as silently as they had appeared, leaving us to our troubled discourse.
